I had a thought that was worrying me over the weekend. I noticed on the rego papers that it actually specifically says 1100cc. So if I do eventually change Lillee's tired 1100 clubman engine and plonk in a 1275 donk, do I need an engineer's certificate or a "blue" slip (is that what it is??).

If so, should I consult an engineer before I start the conversion so that I will stay within "his rules"?

Or am i worried about nothing?

PS. Are S/S braided hoses legal in NSW or not? I was thinking of buying a set of s/s braided oil cooler hoses amongst other bling items 8)

PPS. Yes I know what I have to get disc brakes so dun bother telling me that one...

Hey Chong, from memory, if the RTA permits such a gain in CC (which they do for a Deluxe), all you have to do is take it to the RTA for an inspection. They sight the new engine number and add it to the rego records, and print new rego papers.

That's how is was a few years back when I last did an engine swap.

...and yea mate...........DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!! DISC BRAKES!!

I always thought that you didn't need an engineering report if the engine was an option on the car from the factory in other words Austin etc supplied MIni with 1275's you just had to meet the rest of the spec which was 7.5" discs.

Braided Hoses. Well I met up with a guy at the Hot Rod show who makes these hoses. I asked him if he could supply them for Minis. He said Yes, no worries. They are all passed by Australian Standards and permitted anyway in Aust. is what he told me. They are a company called Maltech. If anyone wants details I can supply them (when I find his business card).

You need to take the car for a blue slip to change the engine. No problem with the 1275 as long as it has discs.

The only hoses that the RTA will worry about are the brake hoses. They have to meed Australian standards.

Some people here (NSW area) have had trouble with braided hoses...reason given....you can't see whether the rubber underneath is perished or not.....

I would check with the RTA before paying out money on them.

You can't tell if a standard hose is perished underneath either!!!!

The Cooper S oil cooler hoses are braided anyway! They just have a coating of rubber over the metal braid 8)

Yep...per...rooney....I didn't say they had a logical objection, just an objection....all depends on who you get at the RTA etc

I have the BF Goodridge braided lines that came with my Metro 4 pot setup, how do I prove to the RTA guys that these meet Aust Standards? Coz I just know they'll try it on.

Cheers

Matt

If you buy new standard brake hoses they are probably made overseas anyway, I doubt they will have AS mark..
Mine were bought here from Karcraft, are made in UK, hose is marked `1/8 HL SAE J1401 07/04/00 DOT'.
No AS mark in sight.
I reckon you would get away with using any `standard' brake hose, but the braided ones ring alarm bells at RTA.
