Ive recently bought an old clubbie for it's 7.5" discs, but i keep finding nice little suprises on it like the 12G295 head :D , the car only cost me $1250!!!
I was wondering what a 12G295 is actually worth in half decent condition. From what i know they are getting a little rarer these days and it may be worth a few bob. Can anyone tell me what you would expect to pay for one?
I am currently planning on fitting it to my own car, a 1115cc with a mild camshaft, maniflow mid bore LCB, Weber 40DCOE etc but it has a standard 12G202, so the 295 would probably give a nice performance increase. Only problem being the chambers are bigger and i will have to get it skimmed to bring compression back up.

p.s. for those of you that were at Wakefield Park on saturday, i am that guy that showed up in the blue clubbie.

Keep the head and get it skimmed to achieve CR. Remember CR is the calc of a ratio and will depend on the maximum volume when the valves are closed to the minimum not BDC vs minimum.

The head has great flow character and holds value over time. a referb one is about $400-600 and you can try to flog it to MK1 sprite owners as well.

Good Luck

Last one I bought, (4 years ago) we paid $200 for (bare head). They are worth money now, but get it crack tested before you part with your dough.

Don't throw out the 202 head. With (lots of) work they can flow just as well as a 295. Lots of race cars are running them now. Keep it in case..

Chris,
In my opinion you should sell the 202. I can think of a certain Mini owner who gets paid next week who would love one (if it does in fact have valve stem seals  ) And you'll need some $$ to work the 295 anyway, surely......

Forget the 202 head. The 295 is at least a 6 Hp increase at the wheels is standard form on 998.
Be careful though. If the head needs reconditioning, make sure there is not too much seat retension as the valves in these heads are as big as they will go already. The only way to fix them is to insert them.
That can be expensive. My 295 head that I just had done cost me $700......but it is like brand new! (and I can run unleaded)
I looked into a good secondhand one, and anyone that has one knows what it is. at least $600 for one ready to bolt up. More for recon.
At that price it is often cheaper to find a worked 202

Fully worked over 202 heads are as good as fully worked over 295 heads. Ask Graham Russell.. that's mainly what he uses now for building race motors, as good uncracked 295s are getting scarce.
