Do people think there's enough meat in this manifold to port it out to 1.75" to run my twin HIF44's?

I know Calver makes steel manifolds for them, but I think this looks more period 8)

Ok, maybe I should explain, I'm going for the modernised old school idea. I'm still using SU's, just better more advanced ones.. electronic ignition, and so on. I don't want to take away the old school feel of the car

Better and more advanced? You mean more moving parts and more things to go wrong. (leaking O-rings, the stupid Bi-metal strip, etc.)

Doesn't that go for all modern cars these-days, more 'advanced' but more stuff to go wrong

I have the same manifold as yours and I plan on fitting two HS6s to it.
I have a very good reason for doing this.
I only have 1 x HIF44.
I have 3 x HS6.

It might be Ok when you fit it but after a couple of months when it needs new O-rings again....

HIF kicks ass! :D

Had continuoing (carn't spel too  ) problems with worn out throttle shafts on the HS +needle valve. Never had ANY troubles with the HIF!

The biggest issue on a HS is the linear returning spring which gives a constant load on ONE point of the shaft's bearing. HIF has spiral springs which cures this problem to a great extent.

I could imagine the seal leaking again and again if the throttle shaft is worn (which can of course happen to a HIF44!) and damages the seals due to too much play...

Anyways: what Mini engine needs twin 1.75" carbs...?

Mine 8)

I have just done one of these manifolds for 1.75" carbs. Plenty of meat in them.

Need to drill and tap the extra studs to hold the carbs on though

Thank you, all these posts and an answer!

Do you have any pics?

I figure that a Weber has 45mm throats and the engine never sees them both, so why not twin 44.5mm? Should have more torque than a weber too. I love the look of twins 8)
