Does anyone know what the length difference is between the two 11 stud head kits sold by ARP? 206-4204 is the standard length, 206-4206 is for the shaved head. How much does it need to be shaved before you can use the shorter studs, as there is a big difference in price between the two

I use the shaved head version, sorry, I can't tell you how much the head has been shaved, not excessively tho, chamber size is 19cc. With this set up the 12 point nuts, when using the supplied hardened washer, are flush with the top of the stud.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Steve for the reply

I think a standard head height is 69.9mm. Both my race heads have approx 2mm removed so I'm not sure how much you would need to remove to use the shorter studs. Might try anyway.

With that much removed from your heads (.080"), the short studs will be the go. If by chance they don't work for you, I'll take them off your hands :D

I've got a compression ratio of over 10:1 and i'm using standard length ARPs. Can someone offer a difference in length? Is it just because the studs aren't threaded that far up and down on each end? I would have thought as long as it's threaded long enough to fully engage the block and to clamp down the head to the specified torque, having 30-60 thou of a stud coming through on top of the bolt wouldn't matter much.

Is there a price difference?

Finally got around to measuring ARP shaved head version of their head studs, short stud measures 4.0" with longer stud 5.66". Don't have standard length ARP studs to measure for comparison. If someobne does, can they measure please and post the lengths. cheers

Just got my shaved studs from the US of A, part number 206-4206 and this is what they supplied

2 @ 3.0
2 @ 3.125
7 @ 4.0
4 @ 5.45

The shaved ones are the same length as the S ones I've removed (ones with the dimple in the end) although thread engagement in the block is different. Photo is a comparison of ARP versus "S" studs. Its an optical illusion but they are the same diameter. Washers supplied are very thick and maybe a problem.

The washers should be .120" thick, your head has been shaved more than mine, shouldn't be a problem. Let us know tho.
