Post subject: | Has anyone converted their mini to EFI?? |
G'day guys, Im pretty new here and have been doing a lot of reading up on here lately. Its a great site! I was wondering if anyone here has converted their mini to fuel injection with an aftermarket computer? I want to put a turbo on my mini and would prefer to run EFI to save some space behind the engine. The car is not a daily driver as I have a quick EB falcon and a motorbike so I have all the time in the world to work on it. The manifolds, plenum and exhaust will all be made by my mate and I. I was thinking of going for throttle body injection using a factory throttle body off another car, maybe an centrepoint injected EA. Has anyone done this on this forum? What computer did you use? Are you your computer to control the igntion as well? How are you doing this? The plan is to get the turbo and injection up and running then take it all out and restore and spray the body then Ill put in a stronger 1275 and better gearbox when I put it all back together. I'd prefer to do it this way instead of an engine conversion as the engine is already in there plus it should work out cheaper this way as Im going to do it all myself. Im not aiming for much more than 120HP but I want the torque that a turbo can provide. The falcon will remain my fast car, this one will be a weekend warrior around the twisties. Thanks for your help guys. Dan |

Not quite the same, but you get an idea of the potential difficulties. Look for the bit on this guys site about injecting a mini. http://www.telusplanet.net/~chichm/ good luck michael |

We run an aftermaket computer on our cars... fully programable. Connected to our own custom setup. As well as being fully programable you can adapt ignition timing, and boost control giving the ultimate in fuel delivery. Very easy to fit. Tuning via laptop, on road or dyno. |

Mickmini, thanks for that it was a good read. Brickworks- do you have any more info on your setups? What computer is used? Do you have a site where I can see some of your work? Do you guys think I would be better off using a turbo SU? The EFI setup was just an idea to give me something to do but if an injected setup is no better then I wont bother. I can spend more time on the paintwork. |

I run haltech on most of our custom setups. about to do unichip on a piggy back rover system. Injection is the ultimate... but comes at a price, to get setup run a turbo su, but i'll show you what to do for easy efi conversion later. As for a website.... i have been slack(and to busy with work). and don't have one yet. Tell big willy to pull his finger out |

Since Ive turboed my falcon Im keen to turbo everything else I can get my hands on to as well. The mini should be a bit of fun. |

Some of the local bike guys are into injecting stuff... No not that sort of stuff, I mean engines.... ![]() They have done a couple of bikes, and Steve has a really good writing style: http://www.makeitgofaster.com/ It's be something I'd love to do; embedded CPUs are cheap, fast and plentiful these days, the software is almost trivial to write, but I barely have time to look at my mini as it is. |

When you make it work properly on a siamese ported A series , the world will beat a path to your door. Buy an 8 port head first, if you are serious... ![]() <edit> see http://www.starchak.ca/ click on `injected A series motor' |

the guys at OMEX have created a good EFI system that can also incorporate eectronic ignition..... Bit pricey for us at round 1500pounds, but sure is cheap hen you consider it comes wih everyhing, and just need to be bolted in and setup on a dyno.... I am seriously considering one for bricktopin the future.... |

I was under the same impnression as Kevin, that is no one has made port fuel injection work properly on a siamesed port A series. Throttle body Injection for a blower would be different I guess. |

Nuke, I would want guarantees of performance of the Omex one, before parting with your dosh. For that kind of money you could just about buy an 8 port Elder head, and find/build a 4 port MPI system, that works. |
