Post subject: | SU question |
Just a quick question, if su's work under vacume will they still work normally if set-up as a blow-through forced induction? I have seen suck though set-ups, but can they work with an intercooler, or will the intercooler mess about with the fuel/ air mixture or anything? Thanks! |

There are blow through set ups used from the factory on Metro Turbo engines. These can be found and no further mods are required to use them. I think normal SU's can be modified to run with boost at a cost. |

yeah Im in the process of getting one of a metro turbo from the UK. Is it the HIF6 or the HIF44 off a metro turbo? and do you know if n/a metros used the same carb as the turbo ones? |

The factory turbo specific SUs had sealed shafts, balanced breathing to the float bowl & linkages were on the opposite side of the carbs than the "usual" possition i believe (that may not allways be the case tho as people can "play" with that part of it quite easilly & change things around to suit "their own" application) & yes, you can intercool it all before/prior the carb |

IIRC the turbo Metro's used a boost modified HIF44. Intercooling a blow-thru setup is fine, but NOT a suck-thru setup. The fuel pools in the intercooler and you basically end up with a bomb waiting to explode ( backfire = dead ![]() ![]() ![]() |

yeah thats what I thought would happen with a suck thru-intercooled set-up, Im going for my origianl plan of a blow-through intercooled, which is good as I have all the parts already (besides my carb..) so they wont end up as dust collectors haha. |

Other suck-through issue is the vacuum in the turbo at part-throttle. If it has no special seals, it`l draw the oil out of the bearings. |
