looking for ideas that people hav or know of on how to modify an 850 without boring it or turboing it.rebuilding my mk2 austin 850 mini to original apart from some engine mods so that it has some more power for hills etc.
so far planning on engine rebuild and reballance, raising compression ratio to 9.5:1, got a 267 cam and set of extractors.all help appreciatd

My 850 has twin 1 1/4's , 12G202 head and extractors/straight through exhaust and it performs well . The motors tired and still standard cam but the head , carb and exhaust really perk it up .

sports850 and skssgn both got me on my way to getting a little more out of my 850.

I took their advice and bought some cheap extractors off ebay (with 1 3/4 straight through exhaust) and put a 1 1/2" carby on it.

My 850 was stock and this made a noticeable difference and i'm happy with the outcome.

So if your looking for a cheapish quick upgrade i would look at doing the same.

Fitting twin leading shoe drums is a good (essential!) performance upgrade.

If you are planning on upgrading the cam, don't go past around stage 1 (say a 997 cam) without getting the block modified to take proper cam bearings.

Anyhting you would do to increase HPin any motor is appropriate to an 850 - just with less effect due to the smaller capacity.

That said, Mini 7s used to get pretty impressive figures.
