Joe if you don't want it to go BANG! I'd rebuild the motor when you do it.
Seriously, talk to Ben, he's maybe making manifolds now too if you ask nice. 8)

You need a very strong engine internally to do a proper turbo setup, it's a big job costing lots of $$$$. See if you can find Bens thread on his turbo setup. Do it properly the first time and you'll get similar figures to what he got back in was it March at eh dyno day.

Post subject:  both but never a mini

I have driven cars both turbo and super and would say for the road a supercharger mechanically driven with a set displacement is the way to go. For the 90% of the time when you want ease of driving, a supercharger delivers smooth, reliable and lowdown response for the last 10% when going WOT a turbo would out gun a supercharger but in a mini, not by much.
Considering the supercharger kit is available through a member and install is straight forward, I think the decision is easy.

***Come to think of it I may as well get myself one!***

the producer/seller is 92 (Ben ?)on here and his kit fits the Toyota's SC12 supercharger . From memory it sells for around $1000 (BYO supercharger) , I'll find his profile and link it here since the search function doesn't like 2 digit searches .

It is a good kit- also carby not included, you will need a HIF to work. It can take some setting up tho, as with any modded car.

Not sure what young Ben has spent on his turbo set up but mine is getting pretty up there!
If you're looking for big hp, i'd say a turbo will give you more bang for your buck...

i wouldnt call the sc-12 kit install straightforward, but its worth the effort..
and the price is unbeatable.

once you get into rebuilding the motor, things get very very expensive.
but if things arent rebuilt it may go bang with all that extra power...

if i was to do it all again, i'd probably do it with a standard cam, and standard compression and run standard boost...

well thats what i mean juz to put low boost on it, i juz want the turbo to give it abit more get up and go not serious hp

for low down get up and go, supercharging is the way to go

i'd factor $2000 for the sc-12 kit if you just put it on whatever motor you're running.

cost of supercharger, they're probably going for about $300
cost of hif44 carb probably at least $150
cost of dyno time - $500
plus the kit which i think was about $850
boost gauge $30
air filter $50
you might need a relay to run the clutch like i did, $20 maybe.

you'll need an angle grinder to modify the supercharger so it fits, and a rivet gun for one rivet.

its probably a good idea to give the engine some new plugs, leads condensor and points to make the tune count.
you might need some fuel hose and a fuel filter..
thats all i can think of..
