I was driving back from melbourne yesterday and thinking about this... my wife's friend has an Echo, dunno if it's 1.3 or 1.5, but the body is big, so that'd make it a poor performer compared to when the motor is in a mini. I reckon there are a heap of engines about we could try and fit. What about a hyundai excel twin cam 1500, there must be thousands of motors sitting in wreckers around the country now from cars that have had everything else except the motor fall off them. They are a mitsubishi motor, aren't they? Someone also posted about Barinas in the discussion about swift motors - there must be a heap of them about too..... finding a good 2nd hand motor for $500 should be easy, adding a grand worth of turbo mods and make a screamer, blow it up and spend another $500..... imagine the choice we'll have for locally delivered motors in another 10 years as the current set of buzz boxes fall apart - the new colts are supposed to be pretty good, daewoo matiz, even the hybrids - I was looking at a daihatsu terios too..... I like the idea of locally delivered motors cos service parts are easy to get - I know of someone with an import motor in his subaru and he can't even get head gaskets
I really think that in a few years time they're gonna start pushing us off the road, hitting modern engines may be our only way to keep these little beasties running
