What about the heads, are they the same?
And what would happen if you ran 998 pistons in a 1098 (with standard rods and crank) and vis versa? I assume the 998 pistions may foul on the head in the 1098 and would the 1098 pistions in a 998 lower the compresion..... maybe a dodgy way of lowering the comp for a forced induction 998

1098 head (12G202) has slightly bigger inlet valves and ports. But many are using a common old 998 head still, including 2 of mine.
998 pistons stick up 0.148" higher than 1098 ones (1/2 the stroke difference).
Most of these pistons are too thin in the crown to take this much off.
If you put 1098 pistons in a 998 the C/R will be way too low, (probably for a turbo too) also you will have no `squish' effect from the pistons to the head, so poor turbulence. If it was a good mod, people would be doing it. And, they're not.
