I reckon a 1.75 would be heaps for street use in a Mini.
Dellorto 40 and 45DHLAs (very similar carbs) all run a 1.5. I have 87HP+ at the wheels now from my 1360 with a 45DHLA and 38mm chokes, no probs with fuel flow.

hey ive heard of poeple getting needle sizes off the net some where. the missus is buying me a rebuild kit for the carb and need to find out what size needle to get, engine specs: 1310cc, biger cam (kent i think) no idea of valve size or how ported out it is, the weber is a 42, any info or links would be great cheers |

Buz, Webers don't use needles - the variables are chokes, jet sizes, emulsion tubes and venturi's. Not sure on the net where you would find that stuff, Vizard's book is one source people quote, but you're probably better getting one of the local mini specialists like Mini classic jet it for you. 42's aren't a common size anymore, so you may find getting chokes more difficult than emulsion tubes, jets etc. KB edit - new parts are available through Hardimans in Revesby, but they're expensive new. |

hey doz at the bottom of the gracieland site there is a graph that has hp reading from each carb, would that be accurate enough to choose the needle and seat size, i think i might start looking for a 45 too |

Yep, most street mini large bore (1275 variety) engines are putting out anything from 80-120hp (some more than that too, but less common) so go for a kit with either a 1.75mm or 2.00mm needle depending on where you think your engine is at hp wise. Bigger is not better btw, it makes it harder to control the fuel level in the carby if it it too big, I personally think a 1.75mm should be enough with a 42mm Weber unless you run it on the racetrack or something. Maybe some other ausmini members can shed some light on what size they use? Daniel |

Try joltfreak.tripod.com. It has useful info on setting up a weber. If you cant find the link google in Mini weber jetting chart. Should come up straigt away. As far as size goes, it is not necessarily bigger is better, Smaller chokes or bore size will increase flow velocity within reason, and the crappy old 5 port often works better with high velocity if your head work isnt particularly large. If the motor is not overly worked use 36 or even 34 chokes. I have always run 45 webers on 1275, 1310, 1330, 1380 motors that have had some work done on them. For your motor if you opt for a 45, try 36 chokes, 4.5 AVs, 170main, 45 pump, F2 emulsion, 180air corrector 50F8 idle jet. This would be a reasonable starting point. The pump is a little more important than most people think, as it not only pumps on accelleration but streams on main throttle, so dont ignore it when you are fine tuning. Gook luck. |
