ausmini :: View topic - DORIAN TIMER

I've purchased a second hand Dorain Timer, with no instructions, and are looking for the best place to mount it in a Mini. Can anyone help me with some pictures of their installations? I was thinking the boot floor, but would'nt it be better mounted at the front of the car?

Thanks for all the replys. A copy of the instructions would be great. It would seem that the boot floor would be the logical choice, because of clearance, but its at the rear. I'm not sure about putting it in the floor as I'm sure a ripple strip would remove it pretty quickly. I've though about mounting it in a box on the passenger front floor, so the bottom is flush with the floorpan, but it would mean having a hole in the floor.

A fully charged battery will last from 5 to 12 days.
Charge for at least 9 hours.
Remove when Green light flashing (no harm if left on the charger for longer)

Lights when ON charger:
1. No lights or red and green both on - OK charging (battery voltage low)
2. Solid Green - Unit is charging
3. Flashing Green - Charged.
4. Solid Red (stays on) - Faulty. Clean contacts and retry.

Light when OFF the Charger.
1. None - Flat battery
2. Red every second - Unit removed from charger early.
3. Red every second - A few hours left.
4. Red every 6 seconds - About 1 hour left
5. Green flashing every 2 seconds - Fully charged within last 24 hours.
6. Green flashing every 6 seconds. - Fully charged over 24 hours ago.

Steve mount it as far forward as you can so it'll make your lap times a couple of tenths faster...

Passenger floor is generally where I've seen them mounted (underneath that is). I may be able to get a scan of the instructions for you as well. KB

So, I f I was looking at getting a timing unit, what do I need to know? Does Morgan Park have this infrastructure? Does QR have this? Which units? Where from? How much? Cheers matt

If you are going to mount it at the rear,then all we have done is mount it to the rear/side subframe.But we do have to remove and hand them back to the officals at the end of the day.

I will be setting up one on the LS for the 6 Hour Regularity Relay at Phillip Island at the end of September.. Might just put it on the rear subframe then.

QR has Dorian, I don't know about Warwick. QR track manager charges extra for track day users to run the timing system. Timeattack.com.au use their own system for now. Soon QR is introducing a new system which will read bar code stickers attached to the top of each car as they pass under a gantry on the SF line.

Hi, My NB mini came with a hole cut in the passenger footwell from the previous owner's Dorian. (Hole slightly smaller than Dorian) This is for the TX8000 (Brick style) - there is a newer pendant style - that may not need fitting (possibly even just worn but driver) - but I haven't seen these. In my car the Dorian fits inside the car in it's casing - otherwise with a mini would sit too low and be wiped off the car. I have placed some thick plastic over the hole (part of a pot plant pot) to protect the dorian/stop any possibility of falling out. Obviously this solution is only suitable for a dedicated race car - not normal road car. I'm preparing to travel for work - but can get copy of instructions/photos next week if still required. A copy of the manual would be great. I can't attach it to the rear subframe as my car dosen't have one. Front floor is starting to look good. I'II just need to build a box and cut a hole. I don't think the CAMS manual covers mounting of timing units considering they cover everything else.
