Post subject:  Electronic V regulators- gauges

Well, I put Wombat's MK1 electronic V regulator into Barney yesterday, with a new temp sender too (the old one was a non-Mini).

Surprise surprise, the temp and fuel gauges now read normally! :D

The old regulator must have been toasted- the fuel gauge needle used to go hide behind the speedo face when full, and it read 1/4 when it was empty! :x

Thanks, Wombat! 8)

spooky had the same problem today, turned out to be the regulator. Its hard to get at all the wires in the speedo housing with the dellorto hanging off the engine!

All fixed now though...

Barney's previous keeper modified the wiring so the 3 clock binnacle screws onto the trim. And it has a Clubbie plate over the hole. All the wiring is lengthened, so I can sit in the car, undo 4 screws, put my hand between binnacle and trim to undo the speedo cable, then it will sit on my lap! After I decouple the oil gauge pipe..
<edit> The cable is longer than stock, could be early Clubbie.

It's a good setup. I'll modify Mini-Ha-Ha as well at Xmas, saves fighting with the wiring thru the little dash hole as you just did..
