I was given the guys name and a contact phone number but I lost it 
Do any of the WA people know who it is. Apparently this guy is semi-retired, makes replacement looms, can add in any extras you want, located in Perth (NOR I believe) anyone have a contact phone/name for him please? Im still waiting for an auto sparky to come look at mine, but I might throw a battery in it later this week and see if it starts...

Hi Jill, This is what i found out... Wiring harnesses - Contact Vic Longden on 9448 4466 - he lives in Greenwood - he is very knowledgable and very approachable on all things electrical - particularly British - he is normally fairly busy and may require some lead time. tahe good to know that someone can do up a wiring loom. Does he have to fit it or is it just made up and we can fit it ourselves. |

Hi, I believe that he makes up a loom as per the original, so in other words you can fit it yourself. Jim had him make up a loom for his Moke (after an electrical fire) and I'm fairly sure that Jim would have fitted it. Not sure if he has template or whether he'd need the factory loom (or what's left of it) to copy. Perhaps you could call him and ask. Cheers, Dave |

 yes I have.
It drove off the trailer (sounded soooooo good eh) lumpy cam da doomp da dooomp da dooomp. aaaaargh just like it used to be
but, yeah, selectors may have taken a hit coming off the trailer, Sams gonna come back and have a look at it, but at the moment Id have to call it undriveable. Gear change is extremely crunchy, and gears bloody difficult to find
I just need to sort the electrics, the gear selectors, then paint it. Ive cleaned out all the crap that was in the back (all the bits that were replaced) and been over it spotting any tiny dents that need work, found a couple more tiny ones. Gave the apholstery the once over and that all came up nice. I'll need to lay carpet and fit out the back (foam sides, and carpet floor, up sides and over the roof). Once the electrics are sorted.. I can DRIVE IT! |

Hi Jill, Have Sam check that the clutch is operating correctly. Unless your gearbox is (very) secondhand, there should be no crunching when selecting gears. The sloppy selection might be due to damage when getting it off the trailer (if it's a rod-change box) or the gearstick not in it's nylon cup (if it's an early remote style box). Bleed the clutch system and make sure that the slave piston is not hitting the circlip of the slave cylinder. Quite often the rod has to be extended to stop this hapopening. Also make sure the all the links and pins from the top of the clutch pedal to the pin that goes through the cutch cover have minimal play. There's about 4 of them (pins etc.) and a little bit of wear/slop in each off them can add up to the clutch not getting enough throw. Cheers, Dave |

Thanks Dave, Im still waiting for Sam to come back and have a look. The gearbox/selectors were perfect before the rebuild. The car itself (original 988cc van gearbox) has only done about 69,000k and I never had problems with anything other than wearing out or replacing engines
I don't want to touch the selectors until Sams had a look at it, and Im sure he'll know what the problem is. I know he did replace at least one part in the gearbox that was to do with the selectors. There was a short rod that goes into the gearbox, and he replaced that with a longer one (stronger, more reliable) apparently the shorter one puts too much pressure on the casing and can tend to crack the housing. You guys prolly know exactly what Im talking about, so if Ive got the description wrong, thats just coz I dont 'know' all the ins and outs of the Mini workings. yet. But yeah, I'll drop Sam an Email and check when he will be able to drop in and check it out. |
