I'm doing up my van (slowly) with the purpose of looking nice, however its gotta be dog-friendly for my 2 Labradoodles. (big ones!!!)

anyway.... it would appear that sliding windows for a van are rather hard to come by, however I was thinking that maybe a bus wreckers might just have something I could use. I thought the sliding windows at the top of a bus.. unknown model... might just fit.

anyway... my other idea is installing wind-down windows in the rear doors.
the problem with this is... I dont know how much room is in the door cavity, to install such a thing... but I'm thinking an electric window mechanism might be smaller than manual one.

pop out bubble windows (like a sunroof pops out) - where do you get them?

does anyone else have some ideas??

:?

you could have two bubble windows
like the car that homer simpson designed

then you could have your dogs sit up and enjoy the view too

What about the old 'olden panel van lift up rear window and drop down tailgate? Get the hinges from a wreckers and fabricate the rest out of the existing doors?

Yer I know what you mean..great driving around in summer with the top tail gate up.
I don't see why it could not be done...to lock the doors you should be able to use the old locking Mech as it will be Longer anyway..Hinges from the recers...just the body work will be a bit of fun and out of my league.
Ill get Marcia on the road first

have you thought of splitting the window with a thin pannel..a skinny capital i shaped one
then fitting a standard opening mini rear window, and a fixed glass in the remaining front section. I have no idea if this would work, but it would probably need a little welding for the rear window gusset (or whatever you call it) but it sounds fairly easy to me. probably a reasonably cheap option.
hope someone here understands what im on about, and can offer some help or a better explaination. the mini rear window is 341 x 720 near enough. obviously the window hole is long enough, i assume its the same height as a car. perhaps some of the photoshop demons could make a pic for ya so you can see what it would look like completed.
PS still working on the mini police van..

Are you talking opening side windows or rear door windows???

Side windows, you could locate a sliding set from a Traveller/Estate, but good luck finding some! Otherwise you could make up a frame and make them swing out slightly like Mini sedan ones do.

Bus windows are normally a parrallelogram shape, not square at one end and parrallelogram at the other.

eg: BUS: MINIVAN:
____________ ___________
/___________ / /___________|

If you are talking rear windows, why not start with one of those one piece fibreglass rear doors? Then you can easily modify it as you like. 8)

yep im on about fitting standard mini car rear side windows into the back section of the van rear side window hole. achieved by welding a strip up the middle with the curvature required. thne puting a plain of glass in the remaining forward section of the hole... should be enough to stop dogs drooling on your shoulder..
hope that makes more sense

Maybe possible, but they are completely different shapes. The van side window pressings are thinner (between waistline and roof) and a different shape at the tail end. So not so easy...
