Post subject: | Requirements to Turbocharge Mini |
Hi, I have a 71 998 Leyland clubman and I have wanted to turbocharge it for a while. Can someone tell me what I would to do this? Eg, What parts are required, and what kind of pre-requisites I should do to my car before attempting this. Thanks in advance, |

easiest way is to get hold of a "metro turbo" setup from the UK you will need to cut a box section out of your firewall to clear the turbo. engine mods require lower compression so you can run more boost, a cam suitable for turbocharging and she should be in good running order.. you can do strengthening and lightening and you should definitely choose some good pistons. |

you will need to cut a box section out of your firewall to clear the turbo. that was going to be my suggestion |

Alternative is build a new compact exhaust manifold like Benjamin did, no need then to cut a box in (which needs engineering certification). see his thread and pics here- http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... highlight= Or you could do what kazjim did and mount it above the flywheel housing- this also needs a custom made exhaust manifold. Need to do a search for this one. Both these manifolds were welded up from steel elbows and tubing then the flanges machined. |

step 1. Go to http://www.turbominis.co.uk and log into the forum. IMO Metro Turbo is NOT the best way to go. Probably the simplest but not the best. They have a compression of 9.4:1, which is high for a turbo, standard Metro cam (non-MG) basically it's a Metro 1275, with tough pistons and 9.4:1 compression. It has very tough pistons, and better exhaust valve material. Will require firewall modding. However, a company called Mirage in the UK make special manifold such that no firewall mods are required and there's dyno and quarter mile proof that they make good power. Above all you need MONEY! But first off log into the forum above, and ask questions, there's stickys on this. I log in once a week on the same name as here. <edit> Just realised, above, Spaceboy only recommended the turbo set up, not the whole motor. But he mentioned reducing of compression for turbo. Good idea, more boost, more igntion advance, but the Metro Turbo engine run 9.4:1. People on the forum say about 10psi is max for the metro turbo engine set up. |

They look good too! I reckon they are great! Yes pretty expensive for what they are, but definitely worth it when you don't need to hack up the baulkhead! |

just got off the phone with mirage. 340 pounds, there is no vat on this unit. but the postage is only 30 pounds. you have to get a hif44 turbo carb of the mg metro, plus still have get pleneumbb chamber made up,or use the 1 off the metro turbo |
