what type of gearbox should i go for if i am going to have a motor that will produce say 150-160hp.
what type of box will handle this power.
only new to this so please be gentle on me. :cry:

what route are you going to get 150-160bhp out of the motor? and how sensibly do you plan to drive it?

A Celica Five speed will handle it easy (sorry pommy george, couldn't resist)

PS - Assuming you mean Mini, give us a torque figure as well. If you were making 160hp at 9000rpm you would only have 95lbft, a std box will handle it.

If the engine is turbocharged and it's making 200lbft at 4200rpm (160hp) then you'll be buying them on a regular basis!

k-series head conversion 16v,1380 bottom end.
about 150hp

Mini 4 synchro box is good for handling around 180HP, for a while.
Boostedmini ran a Mini-K box for 5 years with a turbo 1360 on it.
If you start flat shifting or running real sticky rubber, the `while' will be very short. :lol:

You could always go with the straight cut 3 synchro dog box (expensive and noisy but thats what KAD etc use on their twin cam conversions in the UK).
