hey all,

i picked up a alternator from a 88 pulsar today to use in my delux

but i cant find the wiring diagram on google.

any tips tricks help with the wiring?

Most alternators are simple... post the letters next to each terminal on the alternator you have and we can surely sort you out.

I have a later Pulsar one in my car.

N15. But hopefully they are similiar. It had three connection, the big one which connects to the solinoid (I think, I can have a check tomorrow and trace back all my wiring quickly). And it has two smaller connections, one for warning light and one for 12v (called the excite line I think). The 12v 'excite' needs to have 12v to it from IGNITION, not battery otherwise it will just drain your battery whilst parked.

Wiring up alternators are rather simple. Much like the 16ACR mini one, but with an extra connector for 12v. (PS don't worry if you can't get the warning light to work, I can't on my car, but haven't really bothered to check why.... asked a few other people with non-mini alternator, they all have the same issue.)

ok mine has a green band on it...

theres 2 wires coming outta 1 plug and then tehres another wire on the back on a bolt.

theres a fat one outta the plug, and a real skinny one

Here's the wiring diag for the N13 Pulsar charging system:

The 2 connections in the alternator socket are "S" and "L" as per this pic and the stud/nut connection is "B":

"B" is the alternator output and connects to the battery.
"L" connects through the warning light back to ignition.
"S" connects to permanent 12V.

When I fitted a 60A alternator from a Laser (same connections) to Oscar, I used his original output wire for "S" and his original warning light wire for "L". I ran a new heavier gauge wire from "B" back to the battery connection on the floor start push-button to cope with the extra current. If you've got a starter solenoid, you just need to connect "B" to the solenoid battery connection (much easier job.....).

What sort of guages do you have?

I know some poeple with the Morris style gauge, and warning light works fine, but I know people with the clubman style (like me) which it doesn't work. :?

Yeah mine's the ol centre job.
Can't see why there'd be a difference - at the end of the day they both just contain a globe that's earthed through the alternator when it aint chargin :?: :?:
