Post subject:  Brakes need bleeding?

Hi,
I've almost got my 71 clubby roadworthy, but the brakes are VERY spongy. As in 3 pumps, before they work. Now I've got a fair idea that I need the brakes bled. Thing is, I have limited tools and no real idea what I'm doing  Is there anyone in south east melb who either can do it for me (for a price of course) or know someone who can? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
Cheers
J

p.s. Actually make that 2 clubbys who need brakes bled at my house :(

is the pedal spongy after you pump it three times or is it firm?

if its spongy you're in trouble,
if its firm you just need to adjust it, which you can do with the correct sized spanner and 10 minutes.

hey man, nah its firm after the 3rd pump. If the pedal travel was 3 times longer, it would be fine :D Just seems to take ages to pump up enough pressure. And as soon as we let the pedal off, its back to pumping 3 times to stop. Almost ran into my own garage door

I've had the same problem, caused by leaky wheel cylinders.

Check your adjustment before using brake fluid
