I have no experience mechanically with minis - or any other cars. But i want my mini to run 11 second 1/4 milesor similar , like one of the videos in the video sections. I have money to spend.
Pleae tell me some things to do, prices too, and qualitative data, to assist me in my quest for a faster mini.
Cheers Guys

There is really no secret....maybe start with a 1275 thick web block and take it to a reputable Mini engine guy!!

"1100s" (1275) engine also a good start. But really any "tuned" Mini engine is good value as far as the smile factor is concerned :D

Get hold of all the Mini magazines you can and study the good things to do....if you don't really have the knowledge then seek help....there is a Mini Racer fella who is in the Tasmanian Mini Club who should be able to advise you on what to do (Chris "Kit" Ellis).

Money isn't everything...you have to have a plan and know what is best to spend it on....do you want lots of power and regular rebuilds or reliable power that lasts a reasonable amount of time??....good luck.

Fastest A series Mini in Oz I recall was Ian Anlezark's blown 1300 `850', I think it got down to 12s or 13s?. And it was light as hell- it had holes drilled everywhere.
Doing 11s is a big ask.
 Put the motor in the back seat... get traction!

Greg's (Low'n'Blown) supercharged '63 project should be in the 12's when complete, but that is with an excessive amount of money spent.
Image

Thats Stuart Mead's mini in the UK............ runs 11.4's all day. But one catch.....it's rear drive with a Escort Cosworth motor putting out around 400hp. He is rumored over the years to have tipped well over 50,000 pounds into it

Namibian......... if u are going to pay someone to build the project from start to finish, how much money do you think will be necessary?

I think a rear wheel drive Turbo PP 13B out of a SP would be a good start in a Mini for 12 to 13's

11 sec 1/4 mile outta a mini??
geez and i thought that me chasin low 12's was an ask
if you want under 12 you will have to go rear wheel drive
read somewhere, can't remember where but the fastest front wheel drive car in Aus pulled a 12.2 sec 1/4 and that was with slicks on it (was a swift gti)
maybe steal there motor, gut ur mini and plonk that in :)
otherwise import a cultis (swift gti but 4wd) and if you can get that to fit maybe do able

Fully worked Nissan Skyline GTR twin turbo, AWD's have a hard time doing 11secs on slicks, and they are worth $110,000 in stocko state! 11secs in a mini is a BIG ask imo... it certainly won't be a road registered car that's for sure!

How much money did you say you had again??

you guys might remember the Speedwell Sprint from Adelaide that was in Targa a few years ago - it's an A series with KAD twin cam, twin webers, you name it... he spent $50 grand aussie on his motor (I asked him personally - I was too stunned to say anything when he answered me) and it does 13's

hey Brad, when are you going to put yours on a 1/4? that'll be a road car benchmark for us all

I wonder if a turbo'd AWD honda 1500 will get into the 12's...... hmmm... I've gotta get my arse into gear

Do u actually understand what its like to drive an 11 sec car??? Ive driven me mates Mazda 1000 ute 13BT a few times, its run a PB of 11.37. Its a light car to, bout 750kg. Its an absoloute handful, you really need to know how to drive a car when your dealing with times and speeds of a sub 12 sec car. A mini doing 11's, that would be a scary car to be in. Just be happy with 20sec et's or whatever your car does.

Agreed Hanra........... had a mate of mine a while back who had a rx3 built by Pac Performance. Ran 12.4 on 17 inch street tyres. Was one of the scariest cars i have been in, due to the fact that when it comes on boost it bluurs the scenery and it is very hard to concentrate on things that appear in your perphiral vision  . I just could not imagine what 12's in a mini must be like..... although i reckon like skssgn said, i reckon 13sec will be a benchmark, even to the point that he may have to change his username to 12secmini 8) 8) 8)

Hey guys,
I think a few names were left out here. Carl Austin's mini in the UK ran an 11.72 at 114mph using a normally aspirated A series with a 100hp nitrous hit. This is out of his extremely lightweight (Lots of titanium) single engined race car before he stuck another engine in it to make it a twinni. The engine is so highly tuned that he estimates if left undetected the engine would burn a piston in 3 secs due to how lean the engine runs. Wrinkle wall tyres are also used.
If you have seen pictures of the car it may seem a little on the wild side with exhaust pipes coming out the bonnet and a downdraught carb sitting amongst them but i guess that's what it takes for these sorts of times.
Another guy is Ian Johnson. I don't know as much about him but the last time i saw him in a mag he ran a mid 12 with a nitroused normally aspirated mini ute looking sort of thing that has been chopped. As far as price i would hate to think and definitely far from being allowed on the road. Anyway, GO THE A SERIES POWER.
