Post subject: | Cam choice for S/C 1098 |
OK, I've had one of Ben Aford's SC12 kits on a dead standard 998 'trial' motor for a while now - but now it's time to build a proper motor for the supercharger. The motor will be a 40 thou over 1098 with a 12G295 head. . .it will run 8-ish to 1 compression and have all the usual balancing/lightening etc BUT What cam is best to use with a forced induction engine? Are there any off-the-shelf grinds available? Does anyone have any practical experience with cams for a blown small-bore? I assume you wouldn't want a whole lot of overlap but an increase in lift wouldn't hurt. . .would I be better off sticking with a std cam and using 1.5 rockers? Any advice would be great. . . |

Russell Engineering RE13T. ![]() As used by kazjim's 1152, Benjamin's 1152, boostedmini's 1293. all turbos. |

I'm using a standard Cooper S cam, for simplicity and ease of daily driving. Still made 50% more power than it did on twin carbies. The current owner of the original SC12 mini setup, (not Ben's) runs a fairly sedate cam and still got approx, mid 90s hp ATWS (or so he said). From what I've read, the best cam for boosting IS NOT, usually, the best cam for N/A applications, you don't want the overlap, but the high lift would be great. I've seen results here is SA from the RE13T, Sox61 got 72+hp ATWs from his 1098. |

The RE13T has the same duration and lift as an RE13, but a fair bit less overlap. Overlap is the killer on boosted engines- the boost tosses fuel mix straight though the combustion chamber and out the exhaust. ![]() |

is it easy to change the re13 to the re13t because i have a re13 and going to turbo my engine |

No it can't be done, you need another cam to grind. Angle between the inlet and exhaust lobes (LCA) is wider on the turbo one. Put the RE13 on ausmini, will be gone in a flash. ![]() |

As the doc says, just sell the RE13... instant sale... and get GR to grind you an RE13T Pete. |

With my set up, I bolted the sc-12 straight on with an RE13 & got ~40hp... Got GR to send me a RE13T and had a mild 30hp increase. |

If you are talking a supercharged motor then the overlap is less critical (RE13 v RE13T eg). The reason you have less on a turbo is because of the back pressure from the turbo. The air/fuel mix is diluted with exhaust gas during the induction stroke. You must have a decent flowing zoorst for the blower set-up, this would indicate a typical scavenging approach to the zoorst (remembering that after combustion the exhaust leaves the engine more similar to an NA) so a traditional cam profile would work ok. You might like to try a cam with an NA lobe separation angle but with a longer exhaust duration? Chew the fat with GR, maybe create a RE13S?. Daniel |

Now that I would like. But I'm too lazy to change the cam....lol |

Does anyone have the specs for a RE13T cam (lift/duration/overlap). I'm not asking for any trade secrets, just a rough idea of the figures so that I can make a few comparisons between the RE13T and a couple of other cams. . . Thanks! |

can you run a 1360 with a RE-13t cam with no S/c or turbo while running in the motor. |
