Post subject:  Progressive Bump Stops
Did hydrolastic Minis ever come standard with progressive type rear bump stops? My 65 had solid bump stops all round and I just replaced the rears with some progressive style ones off a 71 Clubman. I am wondering if these bump stops are the standard ones for the later Clubman, or if they might be the competition ones, fitted aftermarket. The Clubman donor car had been completely rebuilt at some stage of its life to a decent spec - 998 Cooper motor and S disc brakes, etc etc, so it would not surprise me if the suspension had been uprated also.

Never fitted to road cars, afaik.
Can be fitted to dry suspension, but need the brake pipe moved. If Clubby had brake pipe on top of arm, they are not the comp ones.
Are they a cylindrical shape like a water tank, with a hole in the top?

I'll go drag a pic off MiniMania.. :P

Well I'd describe them as doughnut shaped.... my old ones were basic rubber bump stops, and they fell apart as soon as I touched them. Don't recall any brake lines on top of the arm. They certainly have a progressive action, but I'm not sure that they are like the ones on the MiniMania site, but I can't quite make out the picture.

I can't tell if the handling is improved, as the front is sitting too low, on the bump stops, because I had to let fluid out to change helper springs. Looks awesome, but I can't go round corners any more :lol:

Later hydros (like my `70) had a square? block of rubber with a (horizontal) round hole in it.
Yes they are softer than the early pointed cone ones, but they are not progressive.
Mine fell out in 2 pieces.. crap, they were only 30 years old.. :lol:

Yeah that's probably what I've got. Wasn't sure that they were anything special... my pointy ones fell apart, so I just shoved these ones on, since I'd pulled them (and helper springs) off the Clubby. Softer? My old ones were rock hard, these ones are all rubber-like :)

Mick, I'd warn you not to tempt me..... :lol:

Hopefully I'll be there for the 12th. Might be a bit late for Wednesday's meeting, I have a formal to do immediately beforehand (my second in a week!) The bump stops have proven helpful though, had to drop three girls to their formal last night, and the tyres didn't rub quite as much as usual (still, I couldn't go round corners 8) )

Get the proper progressive rear ones- C-AJJ3313, $71/set approx at Karcraft, then you can even carry f*t chicks... :lol:
