Does anyone know what is the difference between 12G1316 and 12g940 heads?

I was reading Kazjims engine build http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... highlight= and noticed that he used a 12G1316 head. Would there be any difference in using this head over a 12G940 if you wanted to produce a turbo 998?

I did that head for kazjim's turbo.
A 12G1316 head is basically a 12G940 head casting with 4 ports added to inject air into the exhaust ports- part of the emission control system.
If not used, screw some 7/16 UNF plugs into block these.
Porting of this head otherwise is much the same as a 940, but the 1316 is a bit thicker around the exhaust bosses so you can shape them better than a 940.
These heads were used on 1275LS, and the late 1275 Mokes.
Yes you can drill them for the S extra stud and bolt at each end.

Getting heaps of grunt out of a 998 would be lots of fun. Was the head work costly?

No. We just tidied it up a bit, fitted unleaded seats and all new valves and springs. They are already big enough for a 998/1098 motor.
Main reason we used a 1275 head was head gasket reliability- these heads are much more rigid than a 202 or 295 one, they use a 1275 turbo gasket, and you can add the studs each end if needed.
Could have used a 940 just as well, but I had a spare 1316.

Did you help him with the build or other machining as well?

No, I just ported the head a bit and decked it clean, James then sent it off for machining and did the engine build.
He pocketed the block himself.

It looked like a very fast 998. It's a pity he had to sell it. I wouldn't mind doing something like that myself to a 998. What do you reckon that engine would cost if you go someone to do it for you?

Hmmm how long is a piece of string.. I'd PM kazjim, ask him what he spent.
