The real question is can you make 7" cooper discs better? have thought about cutting some grooves in them but there just isn't enough metal (6MM). The next idea was to trim down some S rotors, but they are spaced and that is what I don't want, because then i would have to put flares on, spaced rear drum etc. Any suggestions? PT ![]() |

Don'r believe all the crap you read about 7" Cooper discs. ![]() With new rotors, decent pads and a servo, they are fine. I had them on my 76 Clubby automatic (ex-Minimatic donk), drove it hard and they stopped pretty well. Pads I used then were Ferodo metals. EBC Greenstuffs are available for them now, also Mintex M1144 I think. |

Thanks for the reply. May a s well ask another question. My brother and i were looking at the callipers and pads i got and he thought he had seen others for 7" that he thought were different. We had a look at them both today and they were. The ones he had at work had larger pads. Did they make 2 different types or were the ones he had modified? He didn't know the history of the larger ones. The pics shows the size difference in the pads mine are on the left. I also looked at pads on the Minispares and they appeared to be the larger ones. What do you know? ![]() PT ![]() |

I should have put more detail in my post above.. The pic on the left is 997, they were and are utter crap. The one on the right is 998, which is what I used in mine. 997 calipers can be milled out to take the bigger 998 pads, it's not hard to do. I did mine here at home. Then you just use the 2 pins thru the pads, not the spring retainer thingy. ![]() There is no other difference between a 997 caliper and a 998 one. |

Yes! I have two cars with the bigger pad 7" set up, very satisfactory! No servo, lots of feel, and as good as the very best drums! Actually (as the Doc says) is the 998 vs 997 set-up, Fix em up for the bigger pads and you will be fine! ![]() |

Thanks for the info. You guys are legends. We will probable just use the callipers my brother has as they are already 998 size. If that changes you will probably hear from me. Thommo ![]() |
