I've just put a set of twin HS2 Su's on my mini, and I have changed everything on them and had the shaft remade and bushed, and when I go to try the car, it seems to be starving for fuel, and when I checked the fuel bowl, there is fuel going to it.
What could be the possible cause of this?

Have you:

1) reset the jets to two full turns of the jet adjusting nut below the bridge?

2) checked the needles? (what are they?)

3) Checked the springs? (what are they?)

4) Checked the float height in the top of the fuel bowls? Have you checked fuel is going to BOTH bowls?


Do the pistons move freely, the full range of movement. If not, centre the jets (Use a maual) and try again.

Can you get it to idle at all?
If yes, tune the carbs by using the piston lifting pin to check if the mixture is lean, rich or fairly right. (lean = stalling, rich = revs rise, right = revs rise a smidge then settle back)

Don't forget to undo the linkage for this and do each carb seperately, reset the idle speeds, then recheck each mixture, then recheck each idle screw. You will need a carbalancer (Gunson), air flow meter, (or Unisyn is another brand) to have half a chance of matching the airflow between the carbs.

A problem I found when first experimenting with twins is that there are some sets of extractors (usually LCB's) that foul on the inlet manifold slightly causing an air leak. This can sometimes be hard to see when the motor is in the car.

The air leak causes an extremely lean mixture obviously and is another thing to check.

Yep check the needles what size motor did the carbs come from.is there oil in the dash pots or have you got the wrong oil in them(too thick).my engine is a 1330 with a re13cam/11.5-1cr/ported head/free flow exhaust nothing too crazy .I had a 45 dellorto carb on it but sold it and fitted a single HIF 44 carb to engine from 1275 mg metro.That carb worked perfect on the metro but when i fitted to my engine it would only idle as soon as i opened the throttle the engine would die so after doing some home work and about 5 diffrent needles i finally got it right but that shows how important needles are. Give me your engine spec and work done to it and needle codes and what size carbs you have and i be may able to help.Are you using a electric pump or the standard pump is that pumping enough fuel to both carbs check all the basics :D :D
