I just bought a set of twin inch and quarter su's for my deluxe. They are both the left carbies, and they are on a cain manifold. are these carbs of a mini cooper |

Made up from spares. Back in the sixties it was called the mini monaro conversion(manton)... bolt two left hands to a manifold with a dodgy linkage joining them. only one had a choke though. |

I had a pair I found the only way to hook both chokes up was to gte a accelerator or choke cable off a twin carby bike. just a way around it. All the factory ones floating around are matched pairs. You have a home made special. Not that uncommon. and no real difference |

That aftermarket `Monaro Motors' kit setup with 2- LH carbs was copied by many people. Was used for Morris 1100 too. The usual way to join the throttles was a bit of 5/16" diameter steel rod, and 2 `W' clamps. Available from carb specialiststs still, I bet.
They worked OK, until the clamps got overtightened and bit into the rod- then they were hard to synchronise accurately. A proper pair of LH and RH carbs with Cooper linkage is a much better bet.

These should work OK on the Mini, assuming the manifold fits and they are set up properly and have the correct jets and are in good condition. This is the same for any twin carbs. With only one choke working it will run a bit rough until the engine warms up. The alternative is to use a choke cable of a late model Australian mini which actually has two cables - something for the pollution control. They will be more fiddly to balance due to the substandard linkage compared to the proper set. Once done properly, they should work for ages. I have a similar setup on my daughters 1100, which I do not plan to change, and she wants a reliable car. |
