ok everyone i have set myself a little project for the mini over my 2 weeks christmas holidays and that is to extract more power out of her. my question is what way to go? i have a budget of around $1000 - $1500 i was thinking about supercharging maybe? or perhaps some more conventional tuning like head work, cam etc? currently i have got south african mk 111 it has 7.5" discs, and a 1275 with a set of pery extracters and a 1.5" su internally i have no idea but was rebuilt along with the box about 5 or so years ago by some visiting hot shot who may have done anything and everything to it. the box is good so can apart from a detent plug/pin that lets it jump out of 2nd and reverse if your not carefull. otherwise it's perfect. (hell i drove from mount beauty up falls creek and back to melbourne the next only using the syncro's to change gear (read the topic snowchains for the full story)) it also has electronic ignition . i'm starting to ramble now, but if anyone has any suggestions, ideas, tips on which way to go and want's to put together a shopping list for me feel most welcome. i would very much apreciate any ideas. basicly i want best bang for the buck. cheers steve edit: oh yeah i'm a mechanic too so i can do all the work myself . |

I've got a question about SUPERCHARGING.... How much will this actually increase the power of your mini? Like in horsepower/or acceleration speed |

$1500 won't cover the blower unless you do it all yourself, and a stockie motor wouldn't do it justice anyway.... I reckon get the a hot cam grind ($100) head ported ($400 ish) plus a HIF44 carb ($150) or Weber/Dellorto ($350). Add on the gaskets etc. to do this work and you're up for a grand by the time you're done and it'll be a different animal blower can come next christmas, and you'll have the head and cam ready for it |

laughing gas is way cooler and you could get a set for around a 1000 sure your head will probelly fly threw the bonet the first time you hit the fun button but it will be worth it |

Is funny gas legal there, here in NSW it's not. Can't have it connected on the street. ![]() |

i agree, nos = way more fun, but call me crazy some sembelance of longevity is of importance to me ok forget the pipe dream of supercharging for now. where should i start? cam grinds what is good? i have read about the re-13 on here a few times, what sort of specs does that grind have? weber vs. delorto? correct me if i am wrong but if you can tune a weber it's all the same for a dellorto pretty much? i have very little experience on webbers and i have never actually seen a dellorto beofre. so i will probably leave the tuning bit to the experts. head work? i have a cylender head specialist that we use at work for machining etc but they also do performance work too. i'm guessing it's just going to be best to leave them to do their thing or could it be an idea to get them some vizard stuff to work off? cheers steve |

doc same rule's go down here too for go gas. ther is actually a jeep wrangler that i have worked on that has a nos system running that the guy uses for competition, scary stuff. it gets trailered around in between meets. it would be registerable and roadworthy if the big wheels (39" swampers) came of it and lost the nos. cheers steve |

ok going the tried and tested route with a hot cam, head work and bigger carby. now the million dollar question: where in victoria should i get my head done at? can anyone put in me in the right direction? i haven't got a whopping budget for an all out race head just yet, am looking for somewhere that specialises in mini's that can do good work with out costing the earth. anyone got experience with getting head work done any where down here that can give recomendations? cheers steve |

yer man good work with head work. supercharging (the alley im chasing) requires more than $1500 ![]() well so far that's what i've come to find. head work will be good even if u do supercharge later on, a nice cam will be sweet. Maybe get one for supercharging so u can do the process later on? while u have the engine off go the centre oil pickup and the centre main strap. then u dont need to pull ur block apart when wanting to stick a supercharger on later down the track. just ideas |
