So are they the same or are they different? ie. If I send my 1100 camshaft and get it ground to RE13, can I then use this same shaft for a 1275 later on? or is there something I am missing here? ![]() |

I think it depend on the drive cog for the oil pump there has been a few different types. Far as i know you need a 1275 cam for a 1275 But do not hold me to that. |

If you grind an 1100 cam (which is pin drive) it will fit any 1275, as long as you use a Cooper S oil pump. You would have to tap one screw hole if it's not an S block. Note the cam lobes on Cooper S and all 1275s are 1/2" wide, all the other cams are 3/8" wide. On the street it makes bugger-all difference though. ![]() RE-13 has a good lobe radius- it doesn't wear the tops off the lobes like Camtech VP3 ones do. ![]() <edit> Above comment applies to 850 and 998 camshafts as well as 1098. <edit 2) Even if a cam has been reground already, it can usually take another regrind, unless it's a full house race one. The one in my car now is on its 4th from new.. ![]() (Stock S, Bert Jones 30/70, 731, RE-13). ![]() |

I see, thanks Doc! Next question: What's involved in extracting the cam from my engine? Is there any power gain with the standard head or am I wasting my time? |

Chong, As you need to undo 4 head studs to take the rockers off to get the pushrods out so you can remove the cam followers, you might as well take the head off it as well, as the gasket will probably need replacing.. Why not get another head worked over first, then throw it on when you fit the cam. ![]() BTW yes you can remove the cam with motor in the car. This applies to 850-998-1098, and Cooper S. But you can't do it properly on other 1275s.. it's impossible to remove the cam followers, for a start. And, always fit new followers when you do a cam change. They are cheap. |
