Post subject:  Question on my 1275

Hi to all Mini profession,

Just recently purchased a 1275 EFI automatic engine and spoke to a few people they said I can put a twin carbs with the engine. Got a few question ask:

Does any twin carbs should go with my automatic engine?

Currently I got a 998 automatic engine and want to know if I can use the same engine mount for the 1275?

Thanks for your time guys

Twin carbs no problems except if you have a very late model engine with no distributor. Then you'll need computer controlled ignition. If you've got EFI and the block has a distributor, you'll need to swap it out for an A+ dissy that has working insides (unlike the EFI diz, which just points the rotor at the correct plug.)

Engine mounts should be the same for all late model automatics. Could be different if 1960s 998 and 1990s 1275. I dunno.

I'm putting a 1.75 carb onto my EFI auto engine.
To my understanding one carb willl be better for torque, which is what you want
with an auto transmission. Otherwise you could be stalling it.
That said, I have driven a few 998 auto with twin carbs on them and they seemed fine.
Slow, but fine. :D
As Mokesta said, you will need the correct dizzy too.

Engine mounts will be fine. It's the same gearbox.
:D

Just looking at some data from David Vizard....shows that a single 11/2 SU give slightly less torque than a single 13/4 which in turn give slightly less than twin 11/2s. There was really not much in it at 4000rpm and rising to about 21/2hp at 5500 - which is pretty much what you'd expect.

Unfortunately there wasn't any 11/4 data in this set. The test motor was a 1430 so a pretty much standard 1275 would be even more forgiving of smaller carbs. I would think there would be very little to choose between the twins with the single 13/4 being the least effective (but by almost nothng at all).

Cheers, Ian
