Have a look for either mini mod books by Des Hammill or David Vizard. The vizard books in particular are considered "the bibles" and this subject is covered in depth. The series of articles written by Graham Russell in the last few issues of the mini experience also has a lot of good info on small bore (998, 1100) engines.

Personally I would just get a high flow good quality air filter instead of ram stacks otherwise your carbies could suck in bits of dirt and things into the engine causing unnessasary wear and tear.

When I bought my twin SU's they came with ram stacks but didn't want to risk getting random bits and pieces getting into the engine so I never left them on there.

Remember - its your car so do what you want with it.

I got these stub stacks from the US of A. They are only short, probably bout 1.5cm high. They sit snugly underneath a Ramflo style air filter. Ive actually got a unifilter in there. All this probably makes no difference to power, but at least the wank factor is there!

contrary to popular belief, they do work, but only if setup and jetted to do so. They will make your carb breathe 1-5% better depending on design, whether you can notice this difference is arguable. It's all part of building a complete package. 1% here, 3% there and it all adds up

Yeah i got em after reading a Vizard book, i also modded the throats of my 1 1/4in SU's and fitted better air filters. I also went to a slightly richer needle.

Try taking them off now and running without them, then you will notice the difference

A lot of people that drive big motored cars don't think that a couple of HP here and another couple there means much on a big motor but in a small motor, every bit helps and you can certainly feel the improvement..

I know that what I have done to the engine of my 998 LS has made it a whole lot more fun to drive...
