Okay, so how important are new followers really? I am currently putting together a bitsa 1100 motor, nothing special but I have a good Camtech 621 sitting here, thought I may as well put it in. Don't have matching followers for it. It isn't a freshly ground cam its out of a motor. So whats gonna happen if I put good second hand followers in? |

It depends how good they are. Put a straightedge across them, there must be a visible convex surface. If flat or hollow or chipped at all, bin em. Cover the cam lobes and lifters with Castrol LMM molygrease, and then start & run it in for 10+ mins at 2000 rpm. Should be OK. ![]() I'm doing the same thing on this stroker 1412, my spare RE13 cam and lifters has only done 1200 miles, so it's all going into this other block. ![]() GR said will be OK. |

So effectively bed the cam/followers again? My next question was going to be what to lubricate the cam with so thanks for that tip ![]() I have a few sets of used followers, I take it I can mix and match as long as they are in good condition like you say? |

Just had a look at my two sets of used followers, both are basically flat. I do have a new set of followers, but they are sposed to be for a different engine. Looks like a may have to use em anyway ![]() |
