But was wondering what was needed to do something like this (without the supercharger)

I was told that the commercial kits dont have the attachmets needed for a mini. can anybody help me out

Something like this (its supposed to be a chrome filter cover)

I know hi-flow make one but are there any other brands/options out there?

There are generic ones, Ramflow, K&N etc. You can get pancake style air filters, cone ones etc. There are lots of different types. I personally use K&N's, they cost a heap but with how long you get out of them there not that bad plus they breathe really well. The induction noise from my twin 1.25" is awesome!

Can you tell me which style you have, I was leaning more to the cone style as in the pic, but didnt know what i needed to attach the pipe to the car bit. I'm guessing there is a spacer of some sort that would fit. Where did you get yours from (as you are closeish to brissy)

Forget the "Pod" as shown in your second photo. Nothing screams RICE louder then the pod filter. Crap Crap Crap!

i was looking at a pod filter (they were goin cheap) but to fit it would of needed some type of angled adapter onto the carby for the pipe & would of ended up lookin crapola.. i ended up using a k&n filter (part no. 56-9320 for a 1 1/2) which looks kinda like ur mock up. k&n are the rolls royce of air cleaners bar none as i'm sure most will agree
oh yeah and i think a mini with a fibreglass kit screams 'RICE' louder than some air filter no ones gonna see

I got mine from Hansen's Automotive and Gas here in Toowoomba. Mine are K&N's, my carbies are twin 1 1/4". He is a member of the mini club I am in (Mini Owners Club Of Queensland - Toowoomba Branch). Been working on Mini's for ages. From memory they were about $120 each.

Don't know their code as I just said to him that I wanted some K&N's to fit twin 1 1/4" SU's and it just happened - the right ones showed up.

These just bolt straight on, I have seen some that are a cone that bolt on behind the carb as well if you did want to go the conical shape.

Leave the pod filters at supercheap if you want my opionion.

Thanks 1018 the pic was a great help, yes I think that actually looks better than the cone. the reason I was looking at the cone option at the front of the car was not so much the ricer option but the fact that your getting cold air induction. (however warm it is in QLD). thanks for all your input everyone!

Well since I upgraded my air filter I'm very happy with Ramflo.

here's a picture 1 3/4 SU with Ramflo

Cold air induction is pointless, in fact you'll probably lose power having piping and stuff around the place. Go ramflo or K&N or anything of that style, for looks mainly.

I need an adaptor to suit an HS6 like the one on the supercharger mini above (I got the same setup to do) and you can't fit a ram-flo on the end and it bumps a few things. I need an adaptor to run a short pipe to a K&N filter, I'm gonna go for a cylinder type one, for looks and hopefully performance.

If you go Ramflo be aware their foam is crap, it crumbles with old age. Even if NOS sitting on shelf.
Unifilter sells a foam pad to fit, for an SU it's p/no LNX300. $8.90 each.
Get some Unifilter oil, too...

Forget the pod with the plumbing, you get no improvement and like said you might lose power!!
The ambient temperature in front of your grille and the temperature at the carby IS THE SAME while driving so no need for the pod and piping.

I had RAMFLO filter on my 998 and it was a nice sound and looked great.

ok, well general consensus is the K&N/Ramflo idea. Im not changing from my su at the moment so i can count out CAI. Thanks again.

1018cc K&N is by far the best looking option. But costs big bucks, being K&N, ramflo's cost around 44 bucks or so, depeing on how much money you have or are willing to invest. Drmini's idea is good ramflo for looks with unifilter insert for quality, having said that I've had no problems with twin ramflos.

The good Dr is spot on, the Ramflo filter foam looks like swiss cheese compared to the unifilter foam.

Also, with the money you're going to save from not buying a CAI, you can now afford to buy a set of neons instead.
