hey guys i got a mini morris delux sitting in my garage for years, and now i finally got a new engine to put it in, its a metro A+ 1275 engine Engine No. 12H907AA Has 12G940 head, and i just wonder is that gonna fit into my mini delux? and anyone know can i be change to unlead head or its a unleand already? and i also need some recomendation for some good+cheap mechanie in sydney?cost my buget is limited due to i am a student........thanks a lot for the help guys... cheers tomy |

kinda depends on the year of you car, im assuming you also have the metro gearbox? as there are differences with a+ stuff (search), anyways, it will fit, but you may need to cut a hole in the floor to fit the gearchange in if you have a 'majic wand' ath the moment? also i believe you may need disc brakes with a 1275? (dont know aussie state rules) as for your head, there are several types of 940 head, and many will have been converted to unleaded, the only real way to tell is to pull it off, give it a valve grind, and a new head gasket, waterpump and hoses and you will then know where you stand. good luck, oh and pics of mini? ![]() |

That motor will physically fit and isn't too much trouble to do though you'll most likely have to change your inner , rubber universal joints to cv joints and change the gear linkage . The main thing is though , to register it in NSW you'll have to have disc brakes which , if you don't already have them, could seriously blow your budget . Do a search on here and you'll get an idea of costs , you can be lucky and pick them up cheap but for a usable set and putting new pads alone on them is normally around the $1000 or more , new are around $1800 I think . Not sure if it would have an unleaded head on it , some others here might be able to shed light on when the metro's changed to unleaded or if they did . |

that makes it easier, you may need a mini rod change mechnisum if you dont have one, but its a straightfoward swap, wou will need "pot joint" driveshafts. Most people would get the job done in a day, but find a mini freindly garage, and budget 2 days labour and i recon ya should be about right. itll make a nice lil car. |

You live in sydney? I say Keep the 998! sell the 1275 engine to finance a hot 998 rebuild. You can get HEAPS out of a 998 no worries. That way the deluxe will have it's original engine number and it will still have balls. That's my opinion. 998's are great! they rev hard and are very strong motors. Going the 1275 route will cost big $$$$ (trust me!! ![]() |

but i think my old 998 had been blown already ...........i am not sure about the condition but i was working b4 it went on a long trip on the highway.........then it dies..... |

Australian Cooper S is a 1275cc (1.3) there was a 1071cc model made in 63 in UK only. But aussie and most common cooper was 1275. A genuine cooper s motor is still stock the best 1275. But they are rare and often expensive for not a huge gain. I prefer 1275 much better torque and stock power but is expensive and requires disc brakes, but a powerful 998 should have discs too just for safety. Metro was decent MG metro was better. Not quite as good as the S but close enough. You can get the pretty good which quick fairly cheap mods, twin carbs, extractors, staright exhuast. correct needle and good all around tuning. Depends on how much money you got. My cooper s engine and gearbox cost $3250 fully rebuilt. discs cost $1500 90% brand new. It's all expensive. You can get cheaper discs tho. ABOUT lead, I don't find it a problem a fuelstar fixes that proiblem they are $110. On older engines a thick carbon layer is built up, providing you use higher octane fuel eg. 95 or 98 it'll go fine. |
