i was thinking of injecting my mini clubman the su on it at the moment is horrible! i was also thinking of fitting a weber?? but efi would be sweet. i dont mean like factory efi. example! http://www.efihardware.com/efi_main_page.html some of that gear would be very handy.

yes, steve at brickworx has efi setups, you'll need a fair bit of gear.
as far as max power is concerned, efi is behind carb in terms of development,
fuel economy and cold starts are something else though

EFI setup would be great. BUT! These stock kits are really such as rover etc have thier good poiunts coild start, correct mixtures etc but really lack the overall power a good carb can offer, and carb will be (90% of the time) a cheaper alternative. A really well setup twin SU setup either 1.25 or 1.5 depending on the total output of your engine would be the best option unless you hate balancing carbs then a single HIF44 would be a good go!

Due to the siamese inlet ports, direct injection is very hard to tune properly...

The factory injection kits basically spray fuel right behind the butterfly, just like an SU carb would..... so the only difference is that the factory injection delivers fuel before the manifold via electronic pulses instead of using inlet vacuum........

Go for a DCOE.... cheaper and easier

but not that hard most people think, the siamesed ports are the same problem as with carbs

thats the SPi setup from 1992-96, Rover build a MPi setup from 1996-2000 that injected right into the ports of the head

thats true

Err no... carbs emit a constant air fuel ratio given a constand air flow through them. EFI systems emit fuel only for a short fraction of the air charge. The siamese ports means that this short fuel burst goes to two cylinders in preference to the other two. It takes carefully timed injector pulses (ie sequential injection with pulse delay correction) to ensure correct mixture balances. Hence Rover MPi being sequential. Also hence the difficulties with modifying this set-up as it throw off the balance.

Anybody in UK got a real 90HP at crank from an MPI Mini yet? KC thinks not....

Drmini i was about to say that. MPi minis are known to be economical....Not fast. Some guy had about 110bhp at the wheels with NOS! But thats not a correct figure when NOS is involved. And those 90Hp rover cooper things? Your right they aren't 90 Hp t the wheels they are about 90Hp at the crank. But with bad final drive ratios and weird gear ratios and all of that other crap it really doesn't get clost to that at the wheels. I would be suspect that they are even 90 Hp at the wheels as well.

oi strat... don't bother... get ya carb sorted out properly (ie refurb and dyno tuned needle)

other than that there are loads of 4 port (8v/16v/twincam) options ;)

see matt's bmw head option

drmini said at the crank anyway.
final drive and gear ratios dont affect power output, but they sure do affect acceleration.

Blue hoses do NOT add real HP.

If you want big HP and MPI, go get a 7 or 8 port head for starters.

Unforunately spaceboy ur wrong! Anything that makes noise or moves casues friction, friction uses energy therefore energy is lost therefore power is lost. Gearboxes will affect actaully effect output, which has alot to do with acceleration too, but yeah it will. Unless physics is all wrong so far and no one knows anything about mechanics...I highly doubt.

Cold start? I have no problems cold starting? what is everyone on about?

I highly doubt the minute fuel saving of EFIing a mini will ever make setting up an EFI system pay for itself. Same as deisel cars, when you work out the expense of say a diesel Golf vs a FSI Golf, the price difference (something like $8000 or whatever), it would mean you will have to drive for 10 years before you start to make a saving on your initial increased purchase of the diesel car... and that is provided diesel stays the same price versus petrol.

So spend $5000 rebuiding an engine, then a further $1000-$3000 developing a you-beaut delay injection pulse EFI system and at the end of the day be toasted by a 157hp group N car running a simple $500 sidedraft? Where's the logic? spend 5 more minutes warming up your car in the morning, and spend $2 more per tank and run a carb...

One things for sure, they sound better
