hey how r u all id appreciat any suggestions trust me when u get ur doors blown off(so to speak) by a magna u want more performance. im running a 1100 with a ground cam twin 1 1/2 Su carbs Gt40 coil double valve springs extractors and sports exhaust but yet it feels restricted any ideas i think i need to re do my timing could my valves need readjusting its only been on the road 2 weeks tomorrow as i said any helps appreciated CHEERS im off to drink beer and stare blankly at my engine for a couple of hours ;)

your carbs could be badly tuned (twin SU setups are harder to tune than singles or webbers)... or it maybe a bad needle selection.

if you think it has timing / tuning issues maybe take it to a rolling road and get it tuned by a professional

im soon getting my car its first professional service i think that will sought it out but why would needle selection have a large affect i wouldnt of thought it was that limiting

Thats probably a question for the doc, but the needle helps control the mixture and amount of air and fuel which goes into the cylinders... so if you mod the engine to improve its breating, ie head, manifolds, cam.. or displacement the amount of air / fuel you can pump in will increase, and thus the type of needle you need will change.... so if you add a sports exhaust and a new cam and leave the same needle in the carbs as you had before, your going to be robbing the engine of power

Gday Chris...Needle could be a large part of the problem...its the base for a rich or a lean mixture additional as mentioned above twins are harder to tune as you have two. Can be done at home but you have to know what your doeing and a couple off additional tools.

Could also be acouple of other thing...
Oil could be to think in the dash Pots.
Timming at the Dizzy or even at the timming chain
Points Gap (Dizzy) could be out and or tappets.
Carbies could also need a Kit

You have mentioned its only been on the raod for two weeks. Has then Engine just been throu a rebuild. If its just had a rebuild you have to give the engine time to loosen up a bit also

Yep a Dyno Tune is best way to go. Also try and get some one who knows Mini Engines and SU carbs.

seriously* though, i would imagine magnas arnt all that slow anyhow, theres no shame in losing to a 4 doorfamily car when you drive s porty coupe.

seriously though, a newish magna would probally do 0 - 100 in 10.5 seconds?? 11 maybe?

What would you expect out of an 1100 of that spec? ( i have a similar 1100) well heres me saying 13s which aint fast, but keeps us nicely behind the volvo wagons where we belong

New magnas are about as quick as a mini, average family 6 cylinder sedan does 0 - 100kph in 8 seconds or some. So yeah a new commodore could easily beat a stock cooper s to 100, and a mate of mine owns the last model magna with 3.5 litre V6 and it ain't slow at all, just doesn't sound as fast a mini.

ok ive re set my valves retuned my timing at the dizzy and adjusted my carbs suddenly she runs smooth as a new car i think its solved but ill still get them dam carbs looked at and tuned thanks for all ya help
