Hi All Just bought a mini off a guy in Springwood. Didnt do much checking on it. Has a bit of rust but I'm mates with a few body shops so I figure that shouldnt be too much of a prob. Anyways, drove it to the city and back a few times this week and all went well. On Wednesday though I drove it in and on the way back it overheated, in a big way. The thermo was showing about 300. Pulled over filled her up with water, and went on my merry way. Is my head blown? She's currently leaking oil and coolant but still runs fairly well. How much would a blown head set me back? Would like to do it myself but a) dont have the time and b) I'm slightly mechanically minded but dont have manuals. |

This same thing happened to me running really hot, eating the coolant and water, and started running liek a dog, so I took it in for an inspection and guess what... a blown head gasket, a creacked head and a cracked block, hope it's not as bad as mine

The cost to get it fixed will all depend on how much damage you've done, you may only have to get your head machined to level it off. It sort of comes down to how long is a piece of string? |

answer to your siggy 1018cc is that hitting it with a hammer doesn't fix it it just causes otehr problems

IF you can do it yourself, its fairly quick and quite cheap. Gasket kit and some time... If someone else does it for you, really depends. |

Was that from Springwood NSW? If you're in Sydney area & it's a 998, I have a head off my `78 Clubby, valves were done up just before the PO bent the car & I got it. Cheap. I have since put new inlet valve stem seals on it too. PM me if interested..

$120 complete head, all assembled and oiled, if you come pick it up.

OR I have a 12g295 that I'll sell you. (A bit over double Doc's though) New valve stem seals, cleaned and ready to bolt on. Has had about 80-100 thou skimmed off though, so you better get an ACL Head gasket

sounds good for the heads but how hard is it to stick one in (so to speak). You guys are local too (im in Prospect). Whats a gasket set me back and where would I pick one up from? Sorry for all the questions, I'm new to the Mini world. |

I think the ACL Gasket is about $30 (give or take a few) Its not hard to 'stick one on' but if you have never done it, you may need help or need the manual. You can get them from Autobarn, Karcraft, MG Heritage, Supercheap (?) Peter. |
