Hi guys, had to replace the rubber cones on the wifes mini as the old ones would allow the tyre to scrub on the body just sitting still.

Anyway got the old ones out and now trying to put the new ones in....This is on the front of a clubbie by the way,,,problem is i cant get them to go in. They seem to be thicker then the hole in the subframe they go in. Anyone have a clue?

Do you mean wider? Are they brand new, as i have heard(don't take it as gospil) that the new cones are diffrent as the rover subs are different. I could be wrong.
Rubber cones, from early cars are rubber cones. After market ones were made, as JAM found out with his, but they should all be the same.

there used mini cones, just seem to be to wide around the centre to fit in through the gap above the top suspension arm, even if the arm is removed they will not go in, maybe they just need a big hit??
I think the car used to be wet suspension too if that makes a difference?? but they where rubber cones i took out.......

Brad all I can suggest is to stick at it. I swapped the cones from the rear dry frame I had to the front and had a similar problem they would jam fast trying to go in. But eventually I persisted and they went in. A bit of KY could also help But they won't go in with the upper control arm in place (at least that's what I found). On one I used a rubber mallet to gently guide it in.

if it is a wet subframe then yes it could be a little difficult. But if they came out they went in at somepoint, so they should go back in again.... get a peice of string and measure the internal diameter of the tower and then lay it up on the cone. I know that they can be a pain to get in, when in the car, but it shouldn't be that bad. It's probably why wyou had so much trouble getting them out. I know you dont want to hear this, but i think your probably better off getting a dry subframe and throwing it in.... sorry

Plenty of wet subframes around with rubber cones in, like our Barney- they DO fit, ID is the same. Only real difference is hydro towers originally had tags in top to locate the hydro bags, and no attachment for the dry bumpstops (so you just use the wet bumpstop setup).

I recently put new cones in my Mini that has wet subframes and the new ones were way bigger than the old ones. Like has been said above I turned them on their side and then slotted them in diagonally into the tower. I also used a rubber malet. The first part is the hardest once past there is more room up in the tower to manuvoure into position.
