Hi, When we were refitting 8.4 " vented, slotted and X drilled rotors today they would not turn when torqued up against the hub. on the inside of the disc you can see where the edge of the hub his been grooving the inside of the rotor car has not been driven on the road yet - just in and out panel shops ![]() ![]() ![]() Any ideas thanks, Ash[/img][img] [/img] |

what drive flange are you using? normaly the vented discs are made for the metro turbo flange, this one is about 8mm higher than the normal 8.4" flange you may turn the inside of the discs in a lathe to clear |

The driveshaft's are mini and the hubs are Cooper S ... Drive flanges are mini for the discs but im unsure if the discs are mini or metro, as you may also notice in the 1st photo the arm for where the steering rack connects on has also been rubbing with the rotor surface - this has since been fixed but there is still the problem with the hub |

is there anyone eg Pagid etc that do the 8.4 vented in a mini design NOT metro or is getting them machined the only option **EDIT ** When fitting vented discs not supplied by KAD, the inside of the disc bell must be machined to provide clearance over the hub oil seal. The final dimension for the thickness of the face that the drive flange bolts to is 0.660". In 90% of cases the vented disc will now touch the steering arm where the arm forging bulges out around the mounting bolts, here it is necessary to either file or grind the bulging portion to achieve clearance of 2mm, there is plenty of meat in the arm at this point so strength is not a problem At least KAD know whats going on , thanks for your help mate Ash |

As far as I know only KAD do a vented disc setup that uses the mini drive flange. The others, including the Mini Spares UK and of course cast iron AP callipers from a Metro use the Metro drive flange. This drive flange spaces the wheel out 12mm and the rotor out a different amount. The rotor ends up central in the calliper. There is about 5 mm space between the inside of the rotor hat and the hub oil seal. Mini drive flanges plus metro vented discs = clashes as you have found. My cars have Mini Spares 4 pot alloy (Mokesta) and Metro iron 4 pot (Camilla), both have Metro drive flanges with the castellations machined off. M |

the easy way wouls be to fit metro turbo, NAM6450, flanges but they make the track wider by 16mm http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=36942 all vented discs i know are made for metro as the mini never had them from factory your pics look the same as my first try to fit the metro turbo brake to my turbo mini. i was told to use the mini flange but put together it was impossible to turn the wheels, the discs were pressed to the hub and leaved some marks and the caliper would only fit with big spacers to the hub using the metro flanges everything fits perfect |

have been told today that alot of people around use metro vented on mini flanges without a problem, might just get some kad rotors dont really want to go to metro flanges as the track is allready huge and everything needs to go through a engineer b4 it can be registered |

Please let me know how you get on because I would like to use the mini drive flanges on mine too. If you machine the inside face of the rotor hat by about 4mm & file the steering knuckle and use the mini drive flange the rotor will fit but then you'll need either a calliper designed for that rotor position (perhaps KAD) or need to space back the calliper mounts with 8mm thick spacers. Also make sure that people who tell you they're using mini drive flanges are really using mini drive flanges. The one below is a Metro one that has had the outside diamter machined down and the castellations machined off, so it looks like a mini one. The shaft nut is too far in though so it is definately a Metro one. ![]() Here is a mini drive flange which shows the distance the nut sticks out. Pic bow of the drive flange, ihav KAD 4 piston calipers waiting to go on , No one uses the kad rotors apparently and just use the metro rotors , my current rotors need to be machined down 1.5 mm to fit according to kad..Steering knuckle buldge is long gone ![]() |
