I am hoping you could please help me as I have got no idea of cost.

I'm firstly trying to decided on an engine combination, the only thing that I have made a firm decsion on is it is going to be supercharged. What I have decided on is what engine

My first really dumb questions is what is the cost of a rebuilt; (Including transmission)

1. 998 ?

2. 1100

or 3. 1275 (+)

Thanks Guys

Simple Answer it all depends on what is provided and what condition its in!

the differnace between 998/1098 and a 1275 is not a great deal except for the above.

Super Charging well at leat add another 1 1/2 to 2k ontop

simple but the only real answer other tahn taking it to 3 or 4 Engine Builders and not seeing what is to be provided

Don't forget the gearbox rebuild, with diff and u/j rebuild can be up to 2K plus if done right, again, depends how bad the box is.

Even a pro can't put a price on it till it is all apart.

Prices from Miniparts

1275 A+ Semi Reco & Gearbox $3999 (exchange)
998 Semi Reco & Gearbox $3500 (exchange)
1100 Semi Reco & Gearbox $3500 (exchange)
For a fully reconditioned engine/gearbox you're looking at $4500-$6000 exchange, the difference being more new parts are put into it than a semi reco one. :)

Ok, so now the dumb question, what is a semi reco??

Is it similar to the 'special' reco's some of the dodgy's in Sydney do, ie coat of paint and a few banana peels in the sump with some 90wt oil?

If doing an upgrade like a supercharger you would want it to be a strong motor. It might be fun driving around with a 'grenade' motor but it will soon enough cost you a packet when it blows cause it will destroy alot of useful items in the process!
