Probably a dumb question but can I replace a cactus 850 cylinder head with perhaps one from a larger engine? Any advantage in doing so? I know a lot of people will tell me to get a complete bigger engine but I would like to keep the original engine at least until I have completed the resto and got it registered. Still finding my way with this stuff so sorry if my questions are a bit dumb. Good to see the old forums back. Look frward to getting to know everyone ![]() Dave |

If you are doing an original 850 resto, stick with an 850 head. The car will be worth that little bit extra, in an "All Original" class at a Mini show, or the day you decide to sell it. Keep it stocko, if doing an original resto. Having said that, any head will fit, but with 1275 heads, pocketing of block for valve clearance *should* be done, for safety sake. But a bigbore head on a bubby bore would be a bit much, maybe? |

Thanks for the advice willy. I'll keep my eye out for an 850 head. Don't need it urgentley as I'm still getting the body in order. Should stick to one thig at a time I know but I get a bit over excited I spose. So much to do - so much fun. D |

An 1100 head will bolt straight on, it's the best standard head (other than the Cooper head, but they are like hens teeth). Also known as the 12G202. |

I dunno I've seen a fair few 295's lately... looks like hen's teeth are pretty uncommon and not rare these days ![]() |

Search ebay for 12g295 but They are about the $300 mark. A 12g202 is anywhere from $50 Chong, its a cycle... they are still rare, but just changing hands at the moment ![]() ![]() Peter |
