Hi all. problem my mini clubman wont start ![]() i think it is the starter motor solinoid. when you turn the key it does nothing at all. and if you try to earth out the solinod it turns over. the starter motor isnt stuck on or anything.. is this a common thing and how much roughly for a new solinoid. could it be something else. |

More likely your ignition switch or wiring. Remove the ignition wire from the ignition switch & "hot wire" it from there. Odds on it's the switch ![]() |

Probably not the solenoid, but a new one from Supercheap is about $25 Do you get ignition (alt) light and oil light when you turn the key to acc or the next one? Peter |

Then as awdmoke said, get under the steering column shroud and find the wire that starts it. Hotwire your car ![]() If not, let us know... Peter |

On the solenoid there are two cables and a thin wire, a cable from the battery, and a cable to the starter and then there is a small wire from the key. Try shorting a bit of wire from the battery side of the solenoid to the key terminal. If the starter spins you know the solenoid works. ![]() |

It could be the switch or it could be the wiring. Check out the colour of the wire where it goes onto the solenoid (white with a red stripe, I think) and find that colour on the bottom of the switch. See if it gets power when you turn the key. |

I think you may have just found the problem! ![]() OK, On the bottom of the ignition switch there are a heap of blue wires. ![]() When one blue wire is joined to the other blue wire the lights on the dash light up. Then when the other blue wire is connected the starter spins. ![]() |
