Post subject:  Brake Question

Just wondering whether you can run Manufacturer1 calipers with Manufacturer2 rotors?

I've got all 4 suzuki gti rotors and calipers and i've also got the camira calipers and rotors. From the looks of it the gti calipers look brand new and the pads are sprung. But the rotor has about a 10" diameter. The gti calipers also look a bit smaller than the camira.

Is this better than unsprung? or does it just allow for a bit of variation when you machine discs?

So i want to run the gti calipers with camira rotors.
Is there a problem if the radius of the rotors are different?

this is where you have to be really carefull you could use 10 inch rotors with 10 inch disks, however the clamping force ratio of the piston's might be greatly different (the caliper bore ratio)

this could give you very hard brake feel with little actual force on the rotors. or you could end up with a realy soft pedal that doesnt extend far enough for you.

Minimum thickess would also play a point as I would recomen using them only if the calipers stock disk falls within the same tolorances as the min/max thickness of the subsitute disk.

then you will have to work out if the disk is floating ot the caliper will be Floating disks are uncommon but you need to make sure they accomidate for wear correctly.

Personally I would not try to get it to work when brakes that work are so important :D :D

I just put my Mini Flange up through the holes of my Camira Rotor to find that there is a massive difference in size. The Mini Studs are basically swimming in the holes.

Are you supposed to drill new holes or replace the studs on the flange??

If you must do this conversion-
Don't mess with the studs in the flange, it's too dangerous.
Redrill the disc rotor accurately, , with 4 holes 10.0mm dia equispaced on a 101.6mm (4.0") PCD.
That's how I did Honda Civic ones... it worked well.

Ok, so these are the rotors i've got and they've got 6 holes in them. Can i weld these up or i cant because they are cast? They are cast arent they? In any case There isn't much room to redrill them. The holes at the moment are 14mm. Are these normal camira rotors?

WAOOOHHH don't drill them, they'll be nothing left..... see if you can pick up some new ones with less of the rust holes in them......ooopps I ment with less holes and rust

that would be asking for trouble drilling them

DO NOT WELD THEM, they are grey cast iron. Very dangerous to weld anything on brakes, PARTICULARLY rotors...!
I have been told DBA can sell you undrilled rotors, never seen `em in the flesh though.

<edit> Why not buy a kit off somebody who has done these already, PM MrBob- he knows a dude who does them.
It's not only your life you are messing with- it's all the rest of us...
