Post subject:  Down Below Turbo...

Here's a new slant on adding a turbo to a Mini, they have gone and bunged it under the car!
No firewall hacking required.... 8)
Be interesting to see how it performs....

Does the length the turbo is from the inlet port have any bearing on turbo lag?

Looks interesting, wouldn't like speedhumps though.

It'll probably have a bit of effect on turbo lag as the longer the piping the more pressure loss. But I think it really depends on the size of the turbo, if it's too big it'll take too long to spool up..

The longer the dump pipe (& to a lesser extent the longer the inlet) then the more lag. Would be quite noticable on this setup IMHO.

Time for antilag

 it will be a really long lag when he goes over a speed bump and knocks it off

That's just scary , especially with the oil lines etc just hanging about waiting for debris on the road to snag them , not to mention the direct water injection to the air cleaner if he drived it in wet weather . I agree on the lag though , I think from memory there was an intercooler there as well wasn't there , put foot down count to 3 then accelerate .....

and when it rains it would be water cooled :!: definately a Goulburn car

As for the air cleaner flapping in the breeze getting covered in everything that the road can throw up....hmm...maybe a splash guard/cover is in order :!:

hehehhe just like a group B rally car.

i agree that this setup has certian downsides! heheh, probably be okay on a track though.

but if it were for a track you would hack away the firewall id say, well i would anyway!, and if u hit the ripple strips ud knock it straight off.

oh hell yea, definatly hack the firewall(road or track), i just mean the lag may not be such an issue on the track. :D

Yeah great idea for Bolt on----> Rub off not where I would put it. Even guy's doing engine conversions are pretty hezitant to touch the firewall. Personally I would put it somewhere else
