OK so I have one of those U beaut Graham Russell Alloy inlet manifold that suits a single 1.5 or 1.75 SU Carb. I tried to fit it on the Moke, no good not enough room so I try to fit it on the Mini K no luck The float bowl hits the fire wall (no spacer is being used). Has anyone used one of these on a East West A series? if so please let me know the secret. Thanks a very frustrated TK |

Even the standard alloy HIF 6 manifold from an MG Metro engine lets the float bowl hit the firewall in a Moke. If the GR one is longer (probable) or has less rise, then you've got issues. I've got two upper and one lower engine steady and I still get a clunk on quick clutch dumps. M |

Mark I can't even put the damn thing on. The float bowl is hitting the firewall not allowing me to run the car at all, not enough room to fit it to the engine. I need to fit it to the 'K' ASAP. |

Stupid suggestion time: Have you tried putting the manifold on first, then the carb second? Not put them on assembled as a unit? I know with twins, the heatshield makes it impossible to put manifold and carbs on as one unit. So is it an assembly clearance problem, or clearance once on the car that is the problem? Do you have the upper engine steady on? Maybe get an adjustable one and tilt the motor forward a few mm? Cheers Matt |

The firewall in a Moke is more vertical and closer to the engine than in a mini. So any carb set-up that is longer than the standard is likely to clash. Mine is a set-up from a Metro but it fits a mini fine (Gerard has it on Putt Putt). On the Moke though, I have a patch of paint missing from the firewall. GR manifolds are nice and smooth in the bends but from memory, they are long. Maybe TK needs a metro one as being sold by minisport in Adelaide. (see the for sale section for their recent ad) M |

Graham Russell has one on his 1400LS, and Greig Malaure has one on his GF's MiniMatic 1430. Here's a pic of Graham's... |

I'll have another look in the morning. but I do like the idea of using an adjustable engine steady to move to tilt it forward a feww mm. Thanks heaps |

Failing that, send it to me, I will test it out for you free of charge, will send it back when I am sure it is good. Hehe ![]() |

The trick is, you need to make some small panel adjustments to the firewall to make it fit. Normally Graham is very specific when he sells these so people realise you need to push the firewall in a little of enlargen the binnacle hole. Cheers Aaron |

There is no binnacle hole in a moke. This just adds to the problem. |

sorry, typo, OF was supposed to be OR. It needs to be pushed in about half an inch in that case. Cheers Aaron |

GR is not using a HIF carb but the older HS type with the side mounted float bowl. My HIF44 on an Oselli inlet hits the firewall too. I'm thinking about reverting to the HS carb, not only for this reason, but also because it looses that dam bi-metal strip and is simpler to get running right. |

got me thinking last night I reckon the problem could be because it's going on an 1100. A 1275 would be taller and would help in the clearence. Now where do I go from here? another manifold time I guess as I really don't want to butcher my Mini just for a manifold. thanks again |

What about having the manifold mounting face machined at a slightly different angle ? you could angle it up about 15' i reckon and the float bowl wont have too many hassles.... The Good Dr did that on a Redline manifold i think to make a Delorto fit Mini Haha without hitting.... Good luck mate J |

ah yes, good one James. Will do. PS. the face where the carb goes onto the manifold right? not the manifold to engine side huh? |
