I tried to find something about this in the search but nothing came up,a guy i know here in Lismore is trying to sell two heads off a 1275, what is the best out of a 12G202 or a 12G1316.

The 12G202 has been cleaned and reco'd but is standard, where the12G1316 has had slight work but looks like it could do with a bit of a clean.

To my way of thinking the 202 was an 1100 head , don't know the other one off hand but have a look at valve sizes , if they are both similar then I'd be careful .....

EDIT 12G1316 is the pollution version of the 12G940 head and would definitely be the better of the two in my opinion . I'm pretty sure a 12G202 is the head normally found on 1100 basic motors , but could be wrong .

I have 3 12G202's on the shelf

Im pretty sure aswell that they were standard heads for 1098 engines

12G1316 was the 1275 pollution head, used on 1275LS etc.
Basically it's the same as a 12G940 one, but with air injection ports into the exhausts and a bit more metal around the valve guide bosses.

Yes, a 12G202 IS a 1098 head (also was used on 997 Cooper & early 1098 Sprite).. won't work on a 1275.

so the 12G1316 is the one, i was looking for something slightly modified as i intend to turbo it and don't want to weaken anything to much. Another question would be is a small journal crank better suited to this over a large journal.

Also what are the best pistons, i have been told that low compression pistons have weak crowns and are no good for turboing, is there any other option?

Unless you are going to stroke it, or it's an A+ crank and rods, I'd favour the small journal over the large journal, particularly if you are going to rev it..

Don't use the Hepolite 8.8:1 pistons (21251) for turboing they are as you say.
I would use Hypatecs, from Minisport SA- who seem to be selling them cheap these days. :D
They are about 10:1 C/R, but have a pretty thick crown, so the dish can be made quite a bit bigger volume by turning in a lathe.
Also, 1275 heads can be opened out to 30cc by somebody who knows what they are doing.

Alternatively, if you have lotsa$$ you can get good turbo pistons from Avonbar etc in UK.
