hey all, Just a quick one. I recently aquired a 77 clubman. Pretty good nick, however it has rust in the boot (holes) and the front left out hinge panel. I was going to cut and replace with sheet metal, but now I think i will just buy a new boot floor and hing panel. My question is how are they removed? Are the boot floors welded in or bolted in? Any help would be great, Cheers, adz. |

Boot floor is a bastard, it's one of 3 panels spot welded that form the rear bumper lip. All welded, no bolts... ![]() Usually they rust mainly in the wheel well, I fixed the last one with an old donor computer cabinet welded in... ![]() |

my wheel wells are ok, but its rusted at the back bumper end, along there in a few places....seems like a bad spot... |

There is a repair panel you can get, goes from the bumper seam in, about 200?mm. |

you can get a strip to fit the rear.. but the bit under the lid is mostly shod as well so i took more drastic measures ![]() ![]() oh it just needed a wee bit of welding to get it to pass MOT.. ![]() ![]() |

im speechless. Thats really magic what you have done there. Quick question, how long have you been welding for? how long did that take you? and where do you buy your replacement panels from? |

I'm on the other side of the planet so the panels i used are maybe not available over there the stuff i used is by Hadrian . quite cheap..fit very mini like. the welding was done by a friend of dad .He did this before learned a lot from whating him tackle problems He fully rebuild the undersides under the rear lights as well.. from scratch that is ,as the (BMH) panel cost more that all other panels combined ..and you really have to look hard to spot that same with the doors most of the A pillarwas gone : a hole under the window/inside the fender caused mud and leaves to fully fill the pillar.. the boot is what caused it to fail MOT but the A pillars where the worst bit, ![]() and the whole car was full of structurally sound but BAD repairs.. triple layers of sheet in the boot..we cut all bodge work out if you have acces to a spot welder that would be nice. soo much faster for the flanges and very tidy/ no grinding the welds falt This took loads of time.. but all in all, the boot was fixed .. front floor both sides, the panel that attached the rear subframe, new sub, both doors, etc etc etc.. I would suggest to plan on cutting BIG parts out.. taking into account how much clearance you need for the welding rather than taking out small amount of metal. faster and easier in the end. Knipex Concretors` Nippers, Tower Pincers / Steel Fixers Nippers are good for finding and ripping out sport welds (if need be a port weld drill works too but this leaves smaller holes) SO now i have a fully sound body and no cash left .. needs paint. and a fresh 1330/RE13/ DIY head ,block is still waiting for boring and honing |

some panels are indeed hideously expensive. But cutting the entire boot floor out is not worth it unless you go for full concours spec. most of the time just the back 15cm are bad..and that is basicly a flat piece but the repair panel is cheaper/easier than buying flat sheet and cutting that to size. that is what we did.. but we used two side panels as well because of additional rust near the wheelweels. |

same story for me, my boot floor is ummmm, well it aint there, i just cut out the hinge panel all the way across. im steeling the hinge panel off my spare mini, and im going to bend up a custom boot floor on th brake press and mig her toggether. also thinking of welding in a plate to put chrome tailights in. not sure which car to rob it from yet, possibly a late model mini. |
