If you look on the collar on the shaft behind where you've got the red circle you'll see a pin through the collar vertically . On the front end of the same collar there's a pin through horizontally (not too clear in your photo) , knock this pin (put the gear into 2nd , 4th or reverse , so the rod is all the way in) out with a punch that's similar size , not smaller as the pin's hollow . Once this is out , pull the rod change back and the rod with the collar will come away from the gearbox . Then with a small screwdriver pull the old seal out and follow Matt's instructions to fit the new one . |

Can't seem to find anything that is easy to get into position. The exhaust bracket is in the way too. What do you use? |

Put it into Reverse then use a BFH and a 3/16" pin punch to knock the front pin out of the shaft. If exhaust is in the way, drop it off. ![]() |

Are those black circles in the first pick the proper seals? Do I really need to remove the old seal? Can I just put the silver one in and be done with it? My neck's getting sore ![]() ![]() |

Tried for over an hour... couldn't get the seal to move. Any suggestions? |

Since you've spent the money on a decent knew seal (O-ringed doover , we'll call it a seal) you might as well do it right and remove the old seal , best is normally a fine pin punch or similar into the mid section of the seal , not the outer edge and not the inner edge of the hole where the rod goes but into the "meat" in the middle . Once you've squashed it a bit you should be able to get a bite on it with the punch and lever it out . Once you've got it out check there isn't another one inside , the old trick used to be jam a second one in on top of the old one for a better seal , sometimes it works , sometimes it falls out again ... |

If all else fails there is room in there for up to 4 seals on top of each other. ![]() BL must have anticipated the leak problems! |

How far should i be able to stick a small screwdriver in after i removed it? I stick one in but it only goes in about 3 x the thickness of the seal. BTW I bent nearly ALL of my small screwdrivers trying to get the f'r out ![]() edit: and what do you all use to knock it in with? |
