We've all seen it done to V8s, but really, it wouldn't be that hard to do it to a mini now, would it?

No, but here's a few thoughts:
1. You'd need new subframes, custom subframes.
2. There goes the handling.
3. Why? :?

handling is the mini's greatest asset.... why take it away...


besides.... you need a well handling car if you want a rematch down norton summit.... loser.. :)

I wanna tub a mini simply 'coz no-one has bothered doing it before. I'm sorry all, but i don't like the look of having massive flares. They make a mini look like a bloody moon-mobile. not cool.

And MrCushway, cut the crap. I got stuck behind a freakin' Bluebird!
As for the re-match, I'll see you on the cruise tomorrow night. Initial-D style, baby!

Aren't there reverse rims or something similar that mean you can fit wider tyres without the need for larger flares :?:

How wide a wheels do you want and why :?: And also how big are the rims you want to fit :?:

I remember someone posted pics of a mini that had been tubed to get some HUGE wheels not my style but...

If you move the shock you gain about half an inch before you hit the trailing arm. 8)

if u tub a mini so u can keep big wheels inside the guards, all your doing is making the wheel track smaller so definately not good for handling me thinks. chekc out rob halls mini on the 16valve miniclub website

There was a "summernats special" speedster Mini around in Sydney in the early 90's with a tubbed rear end. Stock engine and gearbox, roof chopped off, doors bogged (yes!) up, huge rear wing. The rear end was a trailer axle with leaf springs! :lol:

But it was only built to turn heads, not to be road legal.

I wanna put 13x5.5s on the front, under Leyland 'S' type flares. They fit just neat... and with the same flares on the rear, 13x7s. I want the big 'dish' on the outside.

C'mon guys, i only want to tub it about 2 or 3 inches. Just enough to make it all fit under the 'gaurds.

I'm not really that stressed about how it would handle, it's only gonna be a poser!
Albeit with a twin-throttle body injected 1380, (maybe even v-tec if i could figure out just how), cut-out firewall (made to look like a factory job) hidden wiring, smoothed engine bay moulded dash and door trims, 2 seats, 2 subs, 2 amps, and lots of 'wow' factor.

All because nobody ever does this sort of thing to a mini. Lots have good paint, OR trim, OR engine, but every time i see one 'restored' i just can't help but pick the faults (PIKUP1). I just wanna build one to the absolute best of my ability.

AFAIK extending the wheel arches to provide more clearance for bigger diameter or wider wheels. In this case Stuwey_LS wants to fit wider wheels (13 inch wheels fit inside the arches) but he wants 7 inch rears with out fitting larger flares so they will need to be offset towards the centre of the car meaning the rear wheel arches have to be extended inwards :wink:

Stewey, The rears like I said above are going to offset towards the centre of the car right so doesn't this mean they are not going to be able to have a 'deep dish' unless you did some modifications to the suspension I guess $$$ :roll:

Also wondering if it is the outside track width, middle of tyre track width or inside track width that effects the handling of the car (independant of handling gains because you have wide tyres). I suspect that if the width between the outsides of the tyres is the same then there is not effective change in track width. I am guessing here but it seems the outside edge of the outside tyre(when cornering) is the one that will be doing most work. The fact that you are tubbing and offseting towards the centre to get wider tyres means you get the advantage of increased traction. :?:
