Hi everyone I need some help im trying to dismantle the Diff off a Rod Change type Gearbox my first problem is removing the Drive Joints the Manual says I need Special Tool 18G 1240 does anyone know what it looks like or where I can get one or is there a way of removing them.
My next question is will the interals out of a remote style Gearbox fit into the Rod Change Diff housing as I need to use the drive couplings off the remote Gearbox but prefer the Rod Change gear selector
Thanks for any help Cheers wayne

I'm assuming you mean the pot type inner CV joints ? These are hld in by a wire circlip held between a groove in the diff shaft and a groove inside the CV joint . The tool in question is something like a slide hammer with metal fingers to fit between the diff housing and CV joint . A short , sharp pull is normally enough to split them , at times putting a big screwdriver in between and giving it a "flick" can be enoungh . You just need a little bit of a snap movement to get the circlip to slip into the diff shaft a little more and the CV will slide off . Just try to get it to pull straight , hence the slide hammer with fingers ....

I use a tool looks like a wide cold chisel with a 32mm slot cut in it.
Today I needed it and didn't have the tool here, so I bumped them off with a club hammer and `big drift' (a stuffed layshaft).
Box out of car, they came off easy.

Pukka tool looks like a boot/shoe remover (flat plate witha wide slot in it) and a block on the back. Whack it in with a mallet and the pot joint pops off. Failing that, a coule of tyre levers 'crossed' and down behind the joint with a sharp 'shove' should do it. If it doesn't work after a couple of attempts - turn the joint 1/4 turn and try again. It's sometimes down to where the circlip open end is hanging. KC.
