How deep a box is needed (!) for a 45 on a 6" 20 degree intake (allowing room for filter/pipes). Ta'

Many people have used Mini battery boxes for this purpose, though if you're concerned about weight it may be better to fashion a purpose made box out of alloy sheet. I've used both in the past without any probs other than it reduces the space behind your dash.

To get the depth needed measure the length of the manifold and carb with aircleaner fitted, then subtract the distance from the cylinder head ports to the firewall. Add half an inch or so for clearance, then start cutting out the hole.

No see I don't have the manifold, that's why I'm asking 8)

I already have a box in there, but it's quite a shallow one. I can't even mock something up because there's no engine in there either....so wondering if somebody can measure theirs?

I used to run one on a 'Sports Sedan Mini' once, it went in as far as the end of the parcel shelf at the bottom and on the top as far as the top facia on the dash, and about 15" wide. It ran the same set up as yours, but even then there was not a lot of space for the socks. You could go deeper but it would stick out past the dash rails and that'd make it hard to fit a dash board in. :?

Dashboard??!! We don't need no stinkin' dashboard 8)

This car will probably run a half dash on the right hand side only, enough for guages only.

Thanks for the info though - I'm thinking the 6" might be slight overkill for now. I think I'll plan on the short manifold then if I change my mind later so be it. There's one for sale that's all, but I think I'll pass for now.

Thanks

You will get better power and torque with the longer manifold.
